Well, what else are racehorses bred for ? OK, racehorses are not ceremonially killed in front of people to provide a spectacle, but ultimately their EXISTANCE is for our "fun", is it not ? Similarly greyhounds. Once they are past their usefulness as a racer, very few of them end up retiring to a loving family to live out the rest of their days. Yet I don't see the widespread condemnation for horseracing / greyhound racing as we do for bullfighting. And the only reason for that, really, is because we don't actually see the horse or greyhound being killed in the end.

Ultimately, it all amounts to the same thing though, dunnit ?

No. Because, again, the issue (with fox hunting, and bullfighting) is that people are ENJOYING WATCHING THEM DIE. That's the ONLY thing I (and I think a fair few people) have an issue with. Regardless of whatever happens prior to that during the animal's life.

But I am ENJOYING EATING THEIR GIZZARDS when I have a burger.
Does the animal care if its being watched when it dies ?

Are they literally killed FOR FUN? No. Move on.

No one should ENJOY watching animals die. That's sick.

As I've tried to point out, I do there is I think a difference between enjoying watching animals die, i.e. getting some weird morbid pleasure from its death throes, which is what people often imply is the main purpose of bullfighting but really isn't, and enjoying the ritual and the skills involved in killing an animal. Yes, bullfighting consists of a ritual killing, there's no question about that. But the crowds don't cheer blood or mauling, they cheer the ability to kill with a lack of it.

Having said all that, I must admit that the time I went, the first bull out had all the venom of an aging labrador with a cute, cuddly face to match, while the inexperienced bullfighter had virtually chopped it into grillable rump steaks before its grimly protracted demise - again, something the crowd loudly derided him for. So, not exactly one for the kiddies.

You know what I mean. The thing that is wrong is people taking PLEASURE in another animal's SUFFERING.

Can we really not agree on that?

Absolute bollocks.

I'm guessing they all simply WEEP for the bull when it dies, rather than cheering, right?

I think enjoying ANY part of KILLING is wrong, full stop. Regardless of what the MAIN point of bullfighting is.

I'm sorry....if that makes me a lefty, liberal, bleeding-heart peacenik then so be it.

A lot of cultures have managed to sweep a lot of horrible stuff under the rug and say it's ok, because of one golden word;

TRADITION.

Any C*NT who thinks its fun to run away from enraged , stressed and extremely wound up Bulls deserves everything they get imo. He cannot be suprised by the fact the Bull wanted to kill him to be honest can he.

We can indeed, but it still makes us all hypocrites. I don't take pleasure in seeing an animal suffering. Happily though, when we tuck into a nice burger, which I take pleasure from, the suffering that animal endured during its much shortened life in order to provide us with that burger is conveniently hidden away from us, concealed from us as consumers.

A bull killed in the ring in front of spectators is right there, in our faces, and yes we do indeed see it die. However, that bull will have lived a longer and more enjoyable life than than the one that is bound for our next Big Mac.

Can we not agree on that ?

Bullfighting and people watching bullfighting are sick fucks imo. There's worse though some Pakistani's idea of nice Sunday afternoon family entertainment is to watch a young tied up Bear being mauled and savaged to death by 4 or 5 pitbull Dogs. This to them is entertainment like stroll in the park or a visit to the cinema.

Your not hinting at us are you there

Good god whats next.........ban fox hunting, badger baiting,Dog fighting........We cant do the old favorites like wolves, and bear fighting as they have vanished from this land for some reason !!

Whats happening to our great tradition of watching animals getting gored to death.

And we call Animals Animals !

Any, erm, person who thinks its OK to financially support, stressed and extremely wound up horses getting the shit flogged out of them with whips for FUN, then often getting shot in a second in front of crowds of people for breaking a very fixable leg might just be riding a slightly precariously high moral horse themselves IMHO.

i personally dont enjoy it, but im not about to say anyone from another culture who does is "sick". when someone is brought up that somthing is normal its not for me to critise that individual.

and back to other point, are people confusing and merging bull run with bull fighting?

Agreed. I struggle to eat any animal where it looks like the animal it was alive when it's on the plate, if you get me (ie most seafood etc). I have no problem eating a burger because it DOESN'T look like a mutilated cow, it just looks like a random interchangeable slab of meat.

All I'm saying is I think people who actually get an adrenaline buzz or some kind of thrill from watching another creature die have got some genuine deep rooted issues.

I'd agree its a peculiar thing to want to go and watch, and its really not something I would EVER want to witness. But as meat-eaters, I really do not think we are on very solid ground if we wish to brand it (no pun intended) as being BARBARIC.

Like I say, I think unless you are a veggie, its highly hypocritical to say bullfighting is cruel, when you witness the methods behind the breeding of cows for our consumption.

You honestly think it's ok to enjoy the death of an innocent creature?

To be fair, the former is just a precursor to the other. They run them into the ring.
