Brighton wage structure must change - Gus Poyet

"Doing better" than Crystal Palace is not, nor will it ever be, the most important thing in the world. Who cares about Palace, it's not about them.

No mate you miss the point. The point is that they get smaller gates, therefore have smaller budgets (we did spend more in the close season) and that means that we expect to be doing better than them. You can substitute palace for Doncaster or Burnley if you want.

They've had higher gates for how many years? They've been in this league for how many years? They've already assembled a Championship standard squad. We've only had big crowds this season, and only been in this league a few months. We have a lot of league 1 players in the squad, and the vast majority of our squad signed contracts when we were in that league. It takes a bit of time to establish yourself in the Championship and like it or not, we're playing catch up to teams like Palace. For now, anyway. This time next year it will be a very different conversation.

Mate the reason why they have higher gates is because we were asset stripped and were n lower divisions. But I agree, this time next year there will be no excuse. Brighton suffered for years with fantastic 30,000 crowds in the 3rd division but no ambition. That attitude must go. We get the crowds, we get the revenue, now we must require success.

How many YEARS has Poyet now been with us? Every. single. f***ing. window. Poyet says something along the lines of 'We don't have a bottomless pit of cash,' and this board will go 'oh hes just bluffing obviously we are loaded' and then we sign no one, it is so f***ing tedious, just accept it.

Anyway, what the club needs to do is get our better players to sign extensions, Bridcutt IMO should be locked into another 3 years before the end of the window, obviously at a competitive wage, likewise Greer, Noone, JFC e.t.c. who I imagine are all on considerably less than say CMS who IS on 20k, I'm not saying give them 20k but give them a quality championship wage because they are quality championship players and we dont want their heads turned by our rivals paying more. And perhaps bloom, if you weren't paying the wages of so much dross, (Harley, Ankergren, Dicker, Barnes e.t.c.) then perhaps you'd have more money available now to bring in players?

I didn't say he was bluffing and it wasn't true: it may well be but I was saying why I don't think it is a stupid thing to say; he needs to get the message across.

There is clearly a lot of people on this thread who have only read the headline.

Breaking news......Journalists have a habit of sensastionalising stories to attract attention.....spread the word.

5 pages of laying into Poyet because he stated the bleedin obvious. Some people are only happy when they have something to moan about, I guess.

The treatment that Poyet gets from a lot of posters on here is both embarrasing and pathetic.

It will take us 1 year to get where it's taken Palace decades to get to. And in two years, we'll be in the Premier League and they'll be wondering how they're going to catch up to us. We've had to start from a weaker position, but it won't take us long to overtake them. We've got everything going for us, but we shouldn't be in a hurry to rush things. The club is growing organically, which is sustainable.

Okay. So Dick Knight told me then. I will bet my season ticket on it. Also I have heard this from many "2003" lord of the relm posters at the games.

Dick Knight told you.. right.. No idea what your 2003 comment is going on about but back to the point, anyone who thinks CMS is on 20k a week should go visit Ernest in the looney bin. I find it impossible to believe anyone can say he's on 20k a week with a straight face. Utter bollocks!

I for one find it encouraging to know that we are spending within our means, we should only spend what we recieve, if the receiving means a combination of gate receipts, merchandise, transfer fees and merchandise then fine.

I'm not interested in my football club going bust or having massive debts, Tony Bloom will want his investment back, people have got to realise that that will only happen slowly over the long term

If you would have said that in our first year in our new stadium we would be half way up the Championship with 18 thousand
season ticket I would have been in disbelief people need to get a reality check

It's about making it sustainable as in any business ( which unfortunately is what football is now)

Oh for Christ sake! On what basis can you consistently tell me that he isn't on 20k when GLENN MURRAY told me he left because he was going to be on LESS than half of Craig Mackail Smith's wages. I also have this from DICK KNIGHT as well. I rarley post on here anymore and have no reason to "boost" my reputation as I have no idea, nor will I ever meet, 99% of the posters on here. I have also been told by one Of Murray's neighbours that he again said he left due to CMS being on 20k.

We may have outbid West Ham on footballing terms, but the money they were offering and indeed Leicester was never going to be a world away from what we offered.

I find it hard to believe that Dick Knight and Glenn Murray would discuss that sort of thing with some random fan, And on the off chance that you know them both well enough for them to tell you that would it not have been said in confidence?

And? We spent 4million, it's a lot of money for us but in the grand scheme of things it's not that much, look at leicester, west ham e.t.c. There are people on this board that have seriously suggested Poyet has a transfer Budget of £40million to use, even before this window people were saying 'get the cheque book out tony' but there is no more money for the playing budget, and yet no matter how many times Poyet says it, people will keep on insisting it's all some elaborate game, its not.

Quite.

Nobody knows what our players are on, despite what they are told by who they think. Will be astonished if ANYBODY is on £20k a week, they MAY be close to that with win bonuses etc, but certainly not basic.

Glenn Murray left because he wanted 10k over 3 years, and we were offering £8k over 2 years, because that's what we thought he was worth. GET OVER IT, he is gone, he plays for the scum and it doesn't matter now. I would lay my mortgage that there is no player in the club on more than £10k a week BASIC.

£20k+ a week - don't make me laugh....

Correct sustainability is key to securing top class football at The Amex. The club needs to be realisitic with wages and we need to build up a reserve. Hanging around in the championship is a good place to be. When the time is right I am sure the funds will be made available for that push to the premiership. As supporters not lets have a repeat of the last 15 years please. At the moment we are in a very very good place. All we need to do as supporters is be patient and keep renewing those season tickets.

Don't think that the people who throw their money at clubs like Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd will always be around. They won't and when they day comes when these people walk out the door expect these teams to be eventually knocking on the door relegation.

That was probably you, like it is you saying CMS is on £20k PW!!

Just because you wrote 'is' in capitals doesn't mean it is true!

I'm guessing you're too young to remember what paying silly wages and transfer fees did to us last time we were in the top division ?

I see it as a catch 22, Gus says he hs no money, (which I tend to agree with), but then theres a high possibility that he still intends to play the development squad in the reply at Wrexham, there's a high possibility that we will lose as they are a very good side. but if he plays a stronger side, one which on paper should win, we get the prize money of getting through added with TV money from that game and then the gate receipts and TV rev from the Newcastle game, he ends up with probably £1m addtional money which we currently dont have.

The guys want to play every game, suspensions are now sorted and there's know player near the number of bookings from a ban so I think he should play a stronger team and win ensuring he gets more money.
