Brighton wage structure must change - Gus Poyet

Okay. So Dick Knight told me then. I will bet my season ticket on it. Also I have heard this from many "2003" lord of the relm posters at the games.

Dick Knight wouldn't have a clue about players wages now, he's not even on the board of directors any more.

My
Oh for Christ sake! On what basis can you consistently tell me that he isn't on 20k when GLENN MURRAY told me he left because he was going to be on LESS than half of Craig Mackail Smith's wages. I also have this from DICK KNIGHT as well. I rarley post on here anymore and have no reason to "boost" my reputation as I have no idea, nor will I ever meet, 99% of the posters on here. I have also been told by one Of Murray's neighbours that he again said he left due to CMS being on 20k.

We may have outbid West Ham on footballing terms, but the money they were offering and indeed Leicester was never going to be a world away from what we offered.

My son has been told by the man himself and it is 20k how else do people think we signed him whilst he car was in his garage being repaired

Yes, but the premise behind it. There is nothing stopping a player working after they have finished playing. A Prime Ministers career is exceedingly short (generally), but that does not mean one should be paid a kings ransom.

Why should fans have to spend more and more each year to give some 30 something an early retirement bonus?

That is true of course however I would not imagine Craig Noone would get much work on the lecture circuit or as a peace envoy in the Middle East when he hangs up his boots!

I think Gus is just getting his view over on what the wages structure has to be in order to be a top 6 side , not to go mental and spend spend spend. The extra seating will bring in extra revenue , Gus just wants a bigger slice to progress the squad in an upwards direction.

I agree with him, we cant compete with some clubs....saying this to journalists will only make things harder for him as it creates the perception in peoples minds that we pay poor wages.

Its great to have a manager that speaks his mind but this comes across as self serving at the detriment of the club. Hes basically saying

'Im going to lose players and i cant attract new ones but its nothing to do with me!'

Gus is playing a dangerous game with his comments. He has signed a good number of players in this Championship season at significant cost and most (if not all) have so far been disappointing. The likes of Greer, Noone, Dunk and Bridcutt are perhaps on Division 1 wages and thus yes are very much an attraction. Why is nobody enquiring about CMS, Vicente, Harley, Hoskins...need I go on.

I would like to know what this 'wage structure' actually is. Perhaps we need fewer of these 'stars' and to reward those who took us where we are now.

Very true:)
Seems to be a massive gulf in our wage structure, cms 10k+,noone 3k+ and so on and i bet briddy is on about 3k a week.If i was noone and briddy i would leave for say 6/8k a week.

This needs to be addressed ASAP or we will lose these players:(

Don't be so ridiculous.
If they didn't have a promotion pay rise clause in their contracts then they are idiots, and need me as their agent.

And I'm a postie.

I have posted on a few occassions that Murray would have signed a 2 yr contract at 10K /week. He has settled in Brighton and wanted to stay. Palace offered 3 yrs at 10K. We refused. I can see Murray being annoyed that CMS is getting nearly double. So there is some hypocracy with the wage structure - obviously the wage structure has been pushed for CMS and Vicente, I would think that Noone, Bridcutt and probably on 5K.

Sooner or later this inequality will lead to unrest, either our better players will need to be given better contracts or we will lose them. The wage structure does need to be looked at, I am sure with an average gate of 20K there is a little bit more money available. Saying that I do not want to see us paying silly money. If Bloom is serious about a premiership he may need to put 5 million a year for the next 3 yrs into the playing budget.

Does he fancy a gamble ?

Time Bloom GOT his CHECK book out and COUGHED up some of the MILLIONS he has MADE this season

What'll it be though? 'Dick Tight' worked, but with a name like Tony Bloom you don't have any obvious options - Tight Tony? sTony Broke?

I am very grateful for everything uncle T has done. If he wants to set a wage structure within the clubs income so be it - I will be quite happy watching an upper mid table champioship side. But if he has PL aspirations he may need to get the book out. (I wouldn't be surprised if we see a large investment in the summer)
