Whitehawk were more than happy to host. Was told it was scheduling due to the fact the senior cup semis needed to be played by a certain date and couldn’t be delayed and didn’t want to risk the pitch leading to a postponement. Except now the Semi has been moved to accommodate Brighton being in the National League Cup, not that Horsham get any say in it if they want it moved if they have a midweek game.
Same thing happened with the recent cup game v Burgess Hill. Was postponed a couple of times I think so got switched to Lancing as no flexibility to have a further postponement.

Except when it’s Brighton, and they are able to postpone the semi final so they can play in the national league cup. Weather was absolutely fine today and the game would have gone ahead. So poor from the Sussex FA.

So how many competitions do our U21s actually play these days?

Premier League 2
Premier League Cup
Premier League International Cup
Football League Trophy
National League Cup
Sussex Senior Cup

Have I missed any? That's a hell of a lot. Plus the U18s also play the FA Youth Cup.

The sides they put out in the SSC are U18 (largely) rather than U21, though.

This season they've been mainly U21 from the games I've watched.

Definitely seemed more U21 than U18 from the Albion last night.

The speed and fitness of the full time players at the Albion certainly shone through. Whitehawk weren't terrible but just couldn't compete.

There's a big jump from U18s to U21s though - players in the first year that they are not eligible to play in the U18s are still quite young U21s, and the SSC teams generally seem to be made up from the younger age range within the U21s.
Besides, our best U21 team is out there playing in the PL, Championship, League 1 and in Europe! With the likes of Buonanotte, Beadle, Enciso, Yalcouye, Barco, Offiah, O'Mahony, Ferguson etc. available, Whitehawk might not have got away with 7-0!

The only U21s that I could tell were missing last night, were either injured or training with the first team. It was as strong as they could have realistically gone.

The U21s will have a pathway to the final this year of Withdean (Varndeanians), Culver Road (Burgess Hill), Culver Road (Whitehawk), Culver Road (Horsham) and finally The Amex (Littlehampton or Eastbourne Borough). As emphatic as the victory was it seems that its been pretty easy for the U21 to get a final at the Amex with no real jeopardy. The benefit for most clubs in this competition of Brighton being in it, is that income can be gained from having a big tie at home to Brighton and will get a good crowd (Bar Takings, Gate Reciepts, all very important for clubs of their size). All that two of those clubs will have gained is a loss and no additional income, and less of a chance at a good run for a Trophy. All sympathy with Brighton to an extent because its the Sussex FA making the decisions. They're the ones making a farce of the senior cup, in the last few years Steyning have knocked Brighton out because they were given the opportunity to play at their own ground, neither Burgess Hill or Whitehawk were afforded that for some reason this year due to scheduling, however there is no issue moving the Brighton game. To me it doesn't seem like if either team play Brighton again at Culver road there's any benefit other than playing their own U18s, as the odds are stacked so far against them. It doesn't seem particularly fair to let first team players play in it, so now with the level of the U21s is it particularly fair to let them as well? These are players that have beaten fully fledged football league sides this season.

The Hastings v Horsham final of last year at the Amex was a great spectacle of two sides who had done very well to get there and brought big followings to see their side win a trophy. Its a shame this year its likely to be Brighton U21 v Eastbourne Borough (if Brighton haven't got a more important competition to play in) where Brighton just win 2-0.

And who gets the gate receipts and other income from matches played at Culver Road…. The Sussex FA!

I obviously should have bolded and enlarged the word 'generally' - now done!

No worries, you've just managed to be in a quote of my general rant about this game :lolol:

I think Burgess Hill and Whitehawk kept the gate receipts, but none of the bar takings, obviously the crowds would have been much higher had they been played at both Leylands Park and The Enclosed Ground! Burgess Hill and The Hawks would be touching at least 5/600 with a Brighton home game I reckon!

Lots of competitions but how many actual games?
Last night's match was their 35th competitive fixture so far. They will play AT LEAST 43 matches this season, but given they are still in 3 cup competitions and in decent position to make the PL2 play-offs it is likely to be more. Will probably end up with a longer fixture list than the first team this season.
