Wouldn't be the first time we have done this to provide cover. It may mean one of the other keepers is going out on loan, or is injured.
Loan shirley, for someone. Could even be two - Cahill I think can cover for the U21s if necessary as well? In sure he's played for them already this season.

Guessing its to cover an injury/loan, looks like its former Burnley Keeper Brian Jensen's son as well.

The under 18s starting keeper is in his last season with that group and would be available to move up (assuming he's kept on) in the same way Lorenz Ferdinand did this season. This is cover for this season for now.

Providing "cover" is the very last thing the U-21s need in the goalkeeper position. They already have four goalkeepers, two of whom hardly ever play (Lorenz Ferdinand has made two goalkeeping appearances this season - his third came as an outfield player - and Steven Hall has made four appearances).

Albion now have 14 goalkeepers on their books from U-18s upwards.
This is I believe Tony Bloom's data model at play. Having English goalkeepers is a great source of income as teams need to have english/home grown in their squads and most teams fill their squad with second an/or third keepers who are English to meet that

We get rewarded for those we bring through and it funds wider academy investment

Wonder what the odds were on Brighton signing a young goalkeeper this transfer window...
Well, you probably could have got f***ing HUGE odds on them signing this lad....

I've just been researching his playing history. Was called up to an England U-15 camp in December 2020 and was an unused sub for a couple of matches for the England U-16s in February 2022. Commenced his two-year scholarship with Everton in the summer of 2022.

Played 16 matches for their U-18s in 2022-23.

Joined North West Counties FL Division One South side Sandbach United on work experience (loan) for the 2023-24 season as he wasn't going to be offered a professional contract by the Toffees (that is the same level as the SCFL Division One I believe - basically not much higher than park football). Played one game on trial for Stoke City's U-18s in April 2024 and also trialed with Norwich and Crewe.

He told a Danish newspaper in May 2024 that he had been offered a contract by Bolton Wanderers that wasn't yet signed; I can find no evidence that he ever joined the Trotters. He did make one appearance for the Danish U-18 side in May 2024.

It would seem that he hasn't actually played any football since May.

Let's just say that this signing is a bit out of left field.

Do we? Apart from Sanchez - which admittedly contributed a fair amount of funds - who else (GKs) have we sold? AFAIK Walton left at the end of his contract. Yes, we'll have picked up a bit from loan fees, but does that cover the cost of young GKs coming through the youth ranks?

The model started 3 years ago and it got publicity when ferdinand's son joined us

Cheers for that. Will be interesting to see if it works. Should get a few bob for either Rushworth or Beadle I guess, whichever one we don't keep, and Scherpen.

I think Walton had a year left on his contract when he joined Ipswich on loan (we exercised anoption on him according to the Premier League retained list published in summer of 2021).

They then turned his loan deal into a permanent one in January 2022. Given they were in League One at the time I doubt we got a huge up front fee, but could well have made a bit extra thanks to their rise to the PL.
