Possibly, although summer 2011 felt very flairy at the time with the signings of Buckley, KLL, CMS, Hoskins and Vicente.

i'll give you vicente and possibly KLL but the others weren't really that 'flair' (but were quite exciting)

but that summer has nothing on a hipster goalkeeper, a dreadlocked african left back, the finnish zlatan, an israeli goal beast and now a scottish/spanish wonderkid

No he won't. But that is no reason to not play him. He has to learn so why not in at the deep end? I doubt that many of our supporters will expect great things from him straight away and if things do not work out initially, he can play in the DS for a while then come back. I would rather we did this with a young talent than an old one, who will have little motivation playing in the DS.

If the club's strategy is to now blood the youngsters and see how they get on, rather than wasting fortunes on arseheads like Leon Best, then I am all for that. With some wise, experienced heads around him and the others, I see no reason why they cannot progress and progress quickly playing first team football. Having said that, we need to manage them properly and don't expect them to play every game. Or expect miracles from them immediately.

I am suddenly very excited about the future of our club.

I'm perhaps thinking of Hughton's comments re Hambo. It was along the lines that he will be a DS player until he adjusts to the English game or some such. On the face of it Hambo is older, stronger and comes from a league that would be more physical and less technical.

I agree 100% this is the way to go. This is exactly what I wanted and I'd take these two signings over Zamora any day of the week. But, at the moment, we have either too many DS strikers or five first team strikers hence my thought it could go either way, If he's going to play in the Tex role OR if Colunga ships out that will be more of a sign he's a starter.

Looks like another promising youngster and a very bright prospect – BUT – in amongst all this wild excitement, aren’t we getting a little ahead of ourselves in assuming this kid will be dropped into the 1st team and start tearing up the Championship ? This is a tough league, it’ll be a world away from playing in the Real Madrid ressies.

I still think we need a quality forward with proven experience at this level THIS season, because behind Baldock (regular sicknote) and Hemed (unknown quantity), we’re still looking pretty thin to me.

It was R Madrid C team, so it would certainly be a step up - can't see him being a starter at this stage

I think this guy is taking the Tex/Lingard role, so may not play every game, but a fair bit. I highly, highly, highly doubt he's come from Real Madrid - with massive interest in him from many places - to sit in our DS.

Why? Choice of Premier League DS or Brighton DS (who play in the same league), but with the very real opportunity of making a break through here

Now confirmed (although the report on the club site says he's currently injured so is a way off being match ready)

Harper is currently recovering from a knee injury he sustained last season, and is at least eight weeks away from returning to action.

So that's both new signings injured!

I can see him being first team for a bit, going in to the DS to bulk up, then coming back in to the first team.

Surely off the bench for the Sevilla game though.

At least 8 weeks out injured would point towards a slow integration into the DS for the first half of the season then.

Physio's bench maybe. Wondering if this is why he came here and didn't rejoin Clement.
On balance it's a very positive signing so well done the Club.

I always cringe somewhat when I hear players have knee injuries. They're always the ones that can plague a player for his entire career, sure that's not the case here, but hate seeing them!
