See this is what worries me. "Brighton sign Real Madrid striker"....instantly heaping MAHOOOSIVE expectations on this kids shoulders. He wasn't really a Real Madrid striker, he's a kid from their youth/development setup who was being released. He's proved nothing yet. He'll have a chance to further develop here, but expecting him to be knocking on the 1st team door already and having an impact in this league is a big, big ask.

I'm sure he's a confident lad with a lot of ability, but going by some of the reaction on here already, you'd think we'd signed Karim Benzema.

Physio's bench maybe. Wondering if this is why he came here and didn't rejoin Clement.
On balance it's a very positive signing so well done the Club.

Yep perfect timing from me; typing it as the injury was announced.

Agree that it's a good signing though.

I know we seem to have had a lot of injuries to key players the last couple of seasons, but I didn't realise that this was part of a conscious recruitment policy!

Seriously though, very excited by this signing and hopefully he'll be up and running and pushing for the first team sooner rather than later.

I thought that when first seeing the BHA Tweet.

I'm sure he's a decent player and hope he does really well for us, but for the thousands of fans who don't look into the past/background of new players, to see "BHA Sign Real Madrid Striker" is only going to raise expectations of him to deliver world-class football immediately.

In reality, we've signed a Striker from Real Madrid's 3rd team which is soon to be out of business.
But as stated above, I'm sure he'll do well and has bags of potential.

I think this guy is taking the Tex/Lingard role, so may not play every game, but a fair bit. I highly, highly, highly doubt he's come from Real Madrid - with massive interest in him from many places - to sit in our DS.

In which case, we still need to sign a forward of proven quality for THIS season. Hopefully the club are still working on that, otherwise we are heavily relying on Hemed hitting the ground running and being the real deal.

Obviously a very exciting signing, but I wonder why he's coming to us if he's that good.

Another CHEAP unknown, Boro are PUNTING £14million on Jordan Rhodes we SING foreign youngsters for NOTHING

That lat will get times more Scotland caps than Jordan Rhodes will amass in his career and will be worth a lot more than Rhodes in the future - Why pay £14 million when you can get better for Nothing. This is absolutely brilliant business in the transfer market

I actually thought that too. They didn't even name him in the initial tweet which annoyed me. I think the marketing/PR department need to be a little careful with these young players. They have quite a bit of responsibility in keeping them grounded and focussed. Calling him a "Real Madrid Striker" isn't the end of the world. But it is a bit of willy waving by the club at the players' expense. He needs to be focussing on BHA now, not the past. Similarly I think it was a bad idea making JFC the poster boy for the Nike kit launch last year. Puts too much pressure on these guys too early if you ask me.

Kin hell. Flairtastic.

.....If he's going to play in the Tex role... that will be more of a sign he's a starter.

I've seen a quote from him where he says that he likes playing off the striker (a la Tex's preferred position), but can also play wide. Strikes me that he's definitely the Tex replacement, and thus likely to get a decent run out in the first team. Like Tex, he's likely to be a bit lightweight for the championship, but being a sweaty, hopefully that'll soon be knocked out of him.

In early May he started following Hemed on Twatter... as well as Crouch and a LOT of hot girls.

Probably sees more oppty to move through quicker. One thing Derby don't need is strikers

Could be OK. Still a pretty long shot will make it though. Think a few are getting carried away a bit.

I would hope this isn't a first team signing as far to big a risk for what we need.

One for the future - quite possibly

Damned if I'm trawling through 17 pages to check but if this hasn't been done, why not?

I couldn't agree more.

He's a youth player who was released from one of Real Madrid's development squads, he's never had a sniff of 1st team action anywhere. But the club seizes on the glamour of Real Madrid and announce him as a "Real Madrid striker" - he's nothing of the sort, any more than some youngster in an Albion youth team is a "Brighton striker".

I appreciate the club want to inject some positive spin and excitement into this transfer window, but they're really not doing Harper any favours whatsoever by giving him this type of billing. He's still just a kid starting out in his career, he's done nothing yet. But people are already creaming themselves over him, saying he'll be worth millions, will play for his country, blah blah.

Now if he's anything other than AMAZING from the word go, the same people will be surprised, then disappointed, and then all the slagging will start...

Well done to the club! Massively excited by this. I'll certainly be attending more DS games this season! Our future looks very bright with this chap along with the likes of Tilley, Zlatan, Rea, Dallison, White and Garcia.
