It’s an area we clearly need to improve on. But it’s weird as it’s not often a whole team / squad have the same issues...! Can’t get my head around what it is...

*cough* could it just be bad luck? *cough*

(I have no idea either)

This. And I have said this repeatedly to much derision by the oh so knowledgeable posters on here. When are they going to admit they are wrong? I suspect never. But, as long as the club’s leader’s finally wake up to this, then I suspect we will achieve our top 10 strategic goal...

I think you'll find it has been a bit of piss taking for your endlessly stating the bleedin' obvious.

There is also a trope that we are definitely going down and should Sack The Board, Barber OUT!!! etc.

Many of us will never get on that bandwagon and trust the club to do what's right, and react as a consequence.

Many of us also feel that we know nothing about what goes on behind the scenes, who we have or haven't been in for, and are disinclined to add imaginary 1 and imaginary 1 and come up with a ludicrous 13.

That's all

But you carry on, mate. And I know you will

We have enough quality in defence and midfield to be a really decent side. Unfortunately, we have a lack of quality in the final third, both in supply and finishing. Time and time again, players cross the ball, more in hope than expectation. Not good enough at this level. We regularly start well, create a clear chance and don't take it. We lose that opportunity for early momentum and then a lot of huffing and puffing and frustration follows. We also have no one who can take a decent free kick. Three or four dangerous positions tonight, all wasted. Our defending and approach play is excellent. Its that last bit of quality that eludes us.
I don't think its going to change much with the current personnel, therefore it has to be priority no.1 to keep looking to upgrade our forward positions, as long as we are in the PL. Welbeck is experienced and has that touch of class, to run into the channels and pull defenders out of position. He is not a prolific scorer, however and at present, Maupay takes too many wrong decisions. The other three have a lot to do to prove they are good enough. But its six games unbeaten and five clean sheets and if we beat Palace, the lack of goals will be forgotten for another game.

Saves me writing the same. If we have any money to spend in the summer, it should ALL go on one or two players for the front 3. I suspect clearing the decks of high earners (end of contract or getting rid permanently of Locadia, Izquierdo, Jahanbaksch, Bernardo, Murray, Ryan, Duffy, maybe Andone and Propper) will be essential to allow that. We need a bit of quality and pace in the front 3 and then we’d be a very good side. Edouard and Sarr would do very nicely

Niane from Ligue 1 could be also a good option for a strong, dynamic CF (assuming he recovers well from his knee injury he suffered earlier in the season).

He will, endlessly, conveniently forgetting that we lost £67m last year, and Tony has put £400m into the club. If I was as generous in use of a certain feature on this board that you like to inflict on certain posters, that endless bore would be on it.

Aaaron Connoly has similar shooting accuracy to Mane and Vardy, Maupay has similar to Zaha and Wilson.

You haven't sourced that quote ...

But even if true, it sort of highlights that shooting accuracy isn't the stat we want to be using.

When Vardy hits it, he hits it. Same as Mane.

I reckon Vardy could kick it harder in his carpet slippers that any of the boys we have up front

It just givers keepers a chance. Incredible how many goalies have saved their performances of the season for us isn't it? Or not

The stats are available (as are pretty much any stat you could want) at fbref.com .

Agreed that I wouldn't read too much into shot accuracy. Obviously the top players will put it in the corner rather than at the keeper, which is the most important thing.

It's definitely an area we need to improve as a team though.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

There's alot more to shooting than just hitting the target.

Power and placement must also be considered.

Presumably by accuracy they mean aimed at the goal rather than the stand behind. Unfortunately, weak shots aimed straight at the keeper (like last night) get included as ‘accurate’ and ‘on target.’

Don’t put words in my mouth HWT. I have NEVER said sack the board or Barber out. I HAVE pointed out correctly that our failure to sign Muzza 2 has increased our chances of relegation . I am afraid there are far too many ostrich’s on here, even if you can’t see it....

I’m sure the club want that (mobile) centre forward too, but they just don’t seem to be around.

Watkins is raved about on NSC, but his fee rises to £33m on top of his 5 year contract costing a reported £19.5m. Villa have thrown financial sustainability rules out of the window, but TB won’t it seems go down that route. We were never in the race to sign him. A risky business - West Ham spent £45m on Haller and Newcastle £40m on Joelinton, to sign that elusive striker .... both duds.

I'm not sure we need to look too far beyond what we have. The decision making in and around the box by Maupay and Connolly could and should improve.

We're not looking for 20 a season but I'm sure one of these has the potential to be picking up 12-15 with the way we are creating chances.

Someone else mentioned it recently, a specialist coach for our front men might be the answer perhaps?

They clearly know they need a striker. They offered offered £20m for Nunez, they did sign Zeqiri. They need to move a few on to free up some wages and it's likely that a big offer for one of the higher performers may well come in. I'd be amazed if we start next season with this line up of strikers. It's not football manager you cannot always sell when you want or indeed buy when you want...

You don't get facetiousness do you?

Anyway, back on topic. We need a striker you say? Perhaps you're right. I hadn't really thought about it. It's odd that nobody has mentioned it. Oh well, never mind.

Too easy going on the recruitment team’s obvious failure. This is what they are paid for.

They've found and got signed for us (in an ultra competitve market with gazumping and unscrupulous agents):
Bissouma
Lamptey
Webster
Veltman
Mac Allister
Maupay
Gross
Trossard
Alzate

Since joining us in December 2014, Paul Winstanley has also recruited:
Kayal
Muzza for the second time
Duffy
Hemed
Knockaert
Sidwell
Goldson
Norwood

Playing a vital part in geting us to the EPL and it looks like we may be staying for a 5th season. We're 15th in the EPL, despite not being big payers.

Looking at the big picture, that's not failure.

It's notoriously hard to sign an EPL striker who'll score a stack of goals. The transfer fee and wages package paid for the likes of Callum Wilson and Watkins is beyond TB's level and who can blame him, it's his money. So we have to take punts at the unproven level below that.

Okay I wasn’t clear enough. I should have said recruitment of every position EXCEPT striker has been exceptionally GOOD, BUT the Muzza 2 acquisition failure is what gets me annoyed
