Chris Hutchings was absolutely hated for his behaviour when playing for Chelsea while their marvellous fans smashed the place up, yet fairly quickly became a much respected player for the good guys.

Ok - can I start a "Players who were originally considered to be a waste of space but after a while soon found their way into the hearts and minds of the fans, probably when the manager realised he was playing them in the wrong position" thread?

Navarro

Paul 'The Tank' Clark after his first tackle on his debut at the Goldstone.

Ah Paul Clark - Top man. I can still remember him practically taking some opposition players legs off and leaving him in a heap against the hoardings by the South Stand at the Goldstone - when the bloke protested (feebly) The Tank turned round and gave him the W-Anchor sign!! Could do with someone like him today.

one from the past

the great sergei gotsmanov

alth0ugh it must be said im as excited about calderon as i was all those years ago by gotsmanov

Sergei wins it for me. 1st russian ever to play for Brighton, celebrating before scoring & also being a brilliant player made him an instant hero.

Calderon is class, it's just harder to get exited about a left back than a skillful goalscoring midfielder.

Paul Dickov - if only all the loan players we've had over the years had put in the same level of effort as him.

That Nigerian centre half who scored at barnet - Afuckinjagua or something like that.

I believe his first name was something like Emeeka ?

I was there that day - didnt it piss it down with rain ? or was that another grand day out in Barnet ?

Robbie Reinelt - pretty macka player but notched when it mattered most to the history of the Albion... Craig Maskell should get a shout as well as his goals at the end of the 1997 season were crucial.... dont remember much love for him when he first arrived

Sir Anthony Rougier.

In his all-too-brief spell with us, Sir Anthony managed to score with most parts of his body, usually while in the process of tumbling to the ground, and was honoured with an Argus Pull-Out Supplement Prayermat
