Not having money for top class forwards is no excuse for our players missing the target so often and s @hitting their shorts when we get in the final third. Something is badly wrong with or shooting as nobody can hit a barn door. It’s be several seasons and if the men in charge can’t see it they must be blind. Maybe a an attacking coach like Glenn Murray and some extra hours on the training pitch is required as top class or not they shouldn't be worrying pigeons on top of the stand rather than the goal nets that could be sold on eBay ‘as new’.

Perhaps showing my ignorance of the latest rules, but can anyone tell me why Byram avoided a card of any colour for what looked like a deliberate handball for the penalty? Always thought deliberate hand ball in the area was a straight red?

Not sure it would have made any difference to the result though.

Another striker? Who have we had in our squad who that is true about? Murray for a season and a half but then it looked like he would never score again for us. Who else? We’ve had a few other strikers on the books during that time. Is Welbeck looking that guy?

Binning Maupay off the squad would be a crazy move, no matter who we signed
Another striker? Well, we did actually put in a viable bid fr one Darwin Nunez, I understand - but the player inexplicably elected to play for Benfica rather than a lower/mid-table PL club. No accounting for some people's stupidity, is there - I wonder where that decision has left him now?
Not Brighton's (or the recruitment team, or Bloom, or Barber, or Potter's) fault.

Crazy to leave him out? And miss out on all those goals he's scored this year? Not crazy at all. Move other attacking players further up to replace him, or more time fir Fergusin. Couldn't do worse. There must be a stat somewhere for the striker who's missed most chances this season..............

Jermaine Defoe and Bobby Zamora would be perfect additions to the coaching team - two proven goal scorers - good friends as well

The ball was going across the box, so it wouldn't be a red for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Yellow card offences for handling the ball are:
  • handles the ball to interfere with or stop a promising attack
  • handles the ball in an attempt to score a goal (whether or not the attempt is successful) or in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent a goal

Obviously the second option doesn't apply.
Given how high the ball was and how few players we had in the box, I'm not sure it counted as a promising attack, more of a hopeful cross that was flying above the heads of everyone and out away from goal, so I think it was not deemed to be interfering with or stopping a promising attack.

The notion that Ferguson wouldn't have done worse than Maupay this season I'm afraid is very speculative. To put it kindly.

I said this year. That means this year, not this season - you wrongly jumped to a conclusion. Ferguson could hardly have managed to score fewer goals than Maupay this year.

I do find it incredible that people honestly believe this

I view the Nunez pursuit a bit like me asking Sienna Miller to sleep with me. It was worth a go, just in case you pull off an extremely unlikely coup, but in truth was never going to happen. However, it’s important to also have more realistic targets, otherwise you’ll end up sleeping alone for a very long time… There have to be other decent strikers wanting a chance in the most watched league in the world surely?

No idea who Sienna Miller is, or about your chances of getting a leg over (I'm assuming she's an attractive young woman, rather younger than you?) but our bid for Nunez was quite realistic. As I understood it, the money was right in our bid. Maybe Benfica were just the football club equivalent to a talented striker that, say, a young Robert de Niro might have been to a young woman?
Not really sure there are any good analogies linking playing football and shagging, but whatever .................

Despite your lack of awareness of the young lady in question, I think you’re totally right. I found myself wondering yesterday where we would be if Nunez had signed for us?
And it would seem to me to have been a perfectly sensible option - to go to a team with a reputation for developing talent.

Agreed.

A bit like wondering what if VVD had signed for us back in the day. That could have happened too. Bit of a bu**er, Innit? :lolol:

added to the fact that we are so slow that when thy do get to shoot they are either blocked or aiming for top corners which is always going to make it harder...

Need to get the ball up top quicker

How many goals has Maupay scored this year - that is from 1st. January 2022 to the present day? Then please work out from that how exactly how many fewer goals Ferguson coulld have scored. Need multiple fingers to do it?
Didn't think so ......................
