Still debating whether to get tickets and take my boy (4) to his first game? Couple of things putting me off is the travel (from Crawley) and also its normally his bed time when the game would be kicking off. Dont really want to leave half way through!

A good game I used to play with my boy is he gets a sweet every time ball goes out for a throw in and I get one if its a corner. He loved it because he always got more than me and therefore thought I was rubbish at football and he's brilliant :)

Keeps him interested/watching too

Penalties/Goals = 2 sweets each :rave:

This pre- season friendly got me thinking about the first time I saw us playing good foreign opposition.

It was at the Goldstone, early 90s, and they were East European.
It was a game of two halves, i think we won, but, it was tight, either we got a few in the first half, and they got a few in the second half, or vice versa.
That is really all I remember about it, and I'm not very sure about any of that.
Any ideas, anyone??

6-5 win over Steaua Bucharest?

Looking forward to it, can't wait to see some of the new faces, haven't been to a pre-season friendly since, I think against Spurs at the Goldstone, must have been late 80's early 90's

Think it was pre season 91/92, season after losing to Notts County in the playoff final . Steaua had been European champions fairly recently .

We ran rings round them first half , think we were 4-1 up at half time . They started to play second half and we done how squeaked the win .

If you're usually in the West, then probably about the same time.

Going off topic I know but it's funny how no one thinks anybody leaves early
From the stand they are sitting in. I am in east lower
And yes people leave early. However the west
Is equally as empty at the same
Time and (whisper it) so is the North.

I wont go to friendlies as nobody really cares all the players are interested in is doing enough to be selected when the season starts and avoiding injury and there is little or no atmosphere. hence I paid a months subscription to Seagulls TV to watch the friendlies in the comfort of my armchair.

As a STH in East Lower I don't see people around me leave early but see West & North stand fans streaming out from 80 mins onwards. It's funny the perceptions people have!

I agree. On another note, the format of your reply, seems to me to be in the form of a poem. I quite like it!
