Who cares youre not a Brighton fan. It's not ice skating, you dont get any points for performance.

Don't be like that.

I nearly wrote 'a dick' but.....

Bugger. Too late. :lolol:

You get bounce for the next game from a performance. Would you be equally content had we fannied around like one legged men at an arse-kicking party this evening? I think not. ???

Our total created chances equal 1.54 expected goals, and Chelsea's were 1.35. Dunk's chance is scored 40% of times. Reece James' 2% of attempts like that, and the Zouma shot before deflection was 9%. I would say that we were certainly unlucky to lose like that.

I will await the responses about real goals being worth more than expected goals by those who don't understand the word expected.

Of course, this does point to needing better strikers - but we already knew that.

Yes I’m sorry but that’s why I’m very sceptical of this stats skewed approach to analysing football. Yes Chelsea did score with their more remote chances but because they did that, they had less incentive to push forward and create much more clinical ones. The onus was on us to create more and we couldn’t. Also their first goal was awful play by us and the third not great either. It was entirely understandable we lost, no flukes involved really

Missed opportunity to get a point. Thought we impressed against a below par Chelsea. Play like that and we’ll be fine this season but really can’t afford injuries to key players.

Because they’re trying to censor criticism.

Fans are allowed to vent their spleen about unforced errors and a lost opportunity. It does not mean that we hate GP or want him sacked, it’s not personal.

Come on. Who is trying to censor criticism? Who is 'they'? You're better than that

Maupey is really pissing me off no effort no first touch been total and utter dog shit tonight like I said earlier god help us if we have him as our main striker this year

Prize bell-end on this thread tonight, give yourself a clap. Perhaps give the matchday thread a swerve next game if you're bringing such basic negative shit-posting.

MaupAy will have better games this season. We've played a champions league side tonight and competed well.

Have a word with yourself.

I get the plan with GP obviously a very good coach but get him some players ffs. We made two signings one didn’t play the other lasted 44 minutes. I don’t think it’s a ridiculous expectation to sign some quality especially up top. Your post suggests we have just been promoted and had a plucky go and be happy with losing most weeks.

We did turn down 25m for White, and that would’ve ultimately been GP’s decision to either him or use that cash elsewhere.

Thought he looked very tidy tonight on his PL debut.

Why is it that every time we lose, I see more posts moaning about people moaning than actual moaning? Maybe I've missed something but not sure I have seen anything I would classify as unwarranted 'moaning' in this thread.

Makes me laugh too.
Some people can't differentiate between actual negativity (of which there has been very little tonight) and people being frustrated on the night - appreciating that we played really well, but disappointed that our usual problems persist (of which there has been lots).

Have to be. It’s mad that we are one player away from a decent side. At the moment we just really don’t have anyone with any presence. It’s not even goals, it’s just someone up there worrying the defenders.

Mmmmmm....dunno.

Maybe...all about creating chances for me. A 'striker' like Sterling or Zaha, maybe theydon't need people to make their chances....that'll be £80 million, then. Ings? That other bloke? Thirty mill....how much would that add to us?

I am happy with Maupay, Trossard and Connolly. And +Andone in January.

He was brilliant.

That position is his, don’t need to sign anyone there, focus on the striker.

Wow, what game were you watching?

As always, good at beating players, but not much end product. Hit first defender on numerous occasions or run into someone. Whites last gasp block causing injury, started with March running into someone and losing ball, from which they broke quickly.

I don't think he was bad btw, he did ok, but certainly not brilliant by any stretch.

Would definitely hope for a more natural LWB option with better end product.

Bit of a turn round from your thread that i was replying to, but I agree with this one!

What I mean is...he arrived there for a jolly to watch the billionaires run riot...his preamble was all about Chelsea with occasional pulls back from Jonathan Pearce to talk about potter (little snigger) and what we’re up to.

During the game he grew less dismissive for sure...started to actually talk over Pearce going on about Mason Mount or Whoever..”.ooh..Lamptey has gone past three Chelsea defenders” ....” Trossards got a...oooh what a goal” but he’s basically a typical ex pro. Knows it’s all about the money...doesn’t understand what a project is.

i think its more than one player personally and part of the issue is the rigorous adherence to passing it around the back inviting pressure. Sure none of the goals came from that tonight but we did look very vulnerable some of our back passes were more threatening than our shots at the other end.

In these post lost match threads, some (not you) get very sensitive about anyone criticising performances and unforced mistakes. Apparently real supporters don’t do that.

But it’s always been the way, even pre-internet, supporters let off steam, job done.

That might be true, but it's utterly irrelevant. Who knows what they might have done. What they actually did was score from two shots that were not great chances. That is what fantastic finishers do - so when you are up against the best, they can consistently outperform the average. Reece James doesn't score many goals, so I suspect his was a heavy does of luck. And the third goal was being saved easily before the deflection - so that is lucky for them as well.

The penalty was entirely fair, he was going for that and it was not luck (and it was not cheap - it's a legit tactic).

Dunk's chance is scored four out of ten times, on average. You might not believe in statistics but surely you agree that was the best chance anyone had apart from the pen.

Absolutely - the biggest drag on intelligent debate on this forum is the droning superfans not the bonkers negative depressives

I expected a loss tonight and there’s no shame in that. I also predicted over reaction here.

Thought we played some great stuff. My main question is, why keep crossing the ball to shorties Maupay and Aaron?

Hope Ben and Adam are ok. White was immense. Let’s get our striker in.

Agree with this so much. Stats don’t tell the true story. They scored at the right time so hardly had to move out of what? Second gear? Third at best.
