I just felt that we didn't have the pace to outrun them. Every time we got the ball and should have run with it, we cut back on ourselves as the player (especially Lallana) simply knew he didn't have the pace. Trossard was too small and not quick enough, Maupay wasn't a threat for the same reason, and Welbeck just got hustled off the ball.

I also felt we didn't use Bissouma enough today. He was the only player apart from Veltman who ran at them with real intent.

The stronger and better team won today. Disappointing, but a fair result.

PS : Richarlison... He becomes an even bigger twunt as every season passes, doesn't he!

The lack of pace in our squad is a problem. It was a problem last year and since then we’ve sold our fastest CB.

They had better players and played in a very well drilled formation. They were better than us on the day. It is the first time this season that our make shift wing backs have been shown to be weak, but disappointing that Moder (who has been good so far) was shown to be weak. They left no space for us to move into, so we passed backwards / sideways and waited, and they made no errors and we had no space.

What happens if Lamptey and March keep getting injured?

We're finding out already, and I suspect (or my gut feeling is) Lamptey will be Fragilico forever . . . . March, who knows.

If Potter had Everton's squad, and Benitez had our squad, Everton would still have won.

Whilst that is highly likely, It should also be noted Benitez did his homework, stifled Gross , pocketed Maupay ( not difficult) and pretty much bossed everyone who creates anything . . .better players may have had the edge but a better (or at this stage older wiser) manager got it spot on today.

We learn from this though, and move forward. Hopefully with a working pen and cheque book over the next few days.

Their front 4 gave us problems all game , the 2 wide men were too quick for us , the lack of proper full backs was highlighted in today’s match , Dunk hardly won a challenge in the air against CL , plus his misplaced pass cost the first goal . I also thought they were quicker than us all over the pitch , and seemed to be first to most balls , I can’t remember a clear cut chance we created, but hopefully today’s performance was just a bad day at the office

Everton were stronger, quicker, more organised. better coached and didn't give a shit if we knocked it around at the back. They were organised and pro-active and knew all our weak points as soon as we inevitably turned it over.

In our defence 'Arry Redknapp should have been watching because that is a squad that is down to the bare bones. Never has the policy of filling the squad with central midfielders and trying them all out at wingback looked sillier. There's probably a retirement home team with more pace than us.

There simply has to be incoming before the window closes or Potter is, indeed, going to earn his corn by yet again guiding us to 40 points and 16th.

Disappointing day at the office.
Comprehensively outplayed all over. Trossards early knocks took him out the game. With March injured & Veltman clearly not fit our WB system didn’t work with all the combos we tried.

One of these days we are going to put two decent halves of football together.
We have to put up with players playing out of position a bit, that's OK due to what we have, but when we have March, Lamptey and Wellbeck back and we are all on song, Brighton are in the best situation that they have ever been.
It all went tits up today for various reasons, but Everton are a very strong side that are now led by one of the best managers in the League, he is tactically brilliant.
All I ask for is a relatively stress free mid table season, hopefully sign a couple and gradually improve.
I am confident that a full strength Brighton playing at their best would at the very least drawn that game today.
I just hope that a few lessons were learnt.

No point blaming potter against a manager who is in a different league than potter.

IMHO, that was an abject performance against a far better side than us.

A champions league winning manager against a decent young manager plying his trade with Benitez knowing exactly what we were about, how to counter our along the back passing and painfully slow midfield and apart from Bissouma ( who we are becoming a one man side with his skill) we had not the faintest idea how to play against them.

Oh how we could have done with a Grey or Townsend this season. Someone to give us pace as we looked so ponderous it was laughable at times.

Put that down to experience and hopefully we can learn that sometimes we will be outthought and outfought and move on.

PS. If Bissouma leaves we are seriously in the mire on that showing.

I thought we were gutless today, too slow and a total lack of movement. We need faster options to get behind defences.

No idea why Mac came off at half time for Veltman.

There was little movement from the forwards today.
We pass backwards when the forward are finding space, if they don't we go back and try again.

Lamptey and March may well have made a difference, but every year we are in the Premier League we will get outplayed sometimes. As long it doesn't happen too often and we win the games where we do play well and dominate, we'll be fine.

It’s quite alarming to me just how average or worse we’d be without Bissouma. We’d miss his pace, class, positive demeanour.

During the game I wished “If only we’d signed Gray”. A game changer, direct, fantastic pace.

Any idea why he was available for 1.5m? I wasn’t even aware he had left Leicester until he signed for Everton?

We need someone who has pace and willing to take people on, I am beginning to think this is more important than a striker.

Imho both are true.

@Knocky’s Nose rightly pointed out that Lallana, Gross et seq knew they simply didn’t have the beating of far superior athletes (who can also play the game). So they turned back. Rinse and repeat for the final 75 minutes.

So painful to watch, reminded me of football at its worst under Poyet (Championship version), Garcia and Hughton (EPL version).

The EPL is as much about pace and power, as it is craft.

That was the solitary thing I envied about CP teams. Townsend (a cut above today, sadly), Ezee and Zaha had pace in abundance, to destroy better teams on the counter. Today Townsend, Richarlison and Gray.

I wish we had some. I wonder how the collective brainpower of Ashworth and Winstanley assess that aspect? A penny for their thoughts.
