He is not left footed.

We all know that - now. Without trawling back forever and a day I am sure the first impression we got/were given when we signed him was that he was a LB/LWB. Turns out, as I understand it, that although he had played there, it was only as a necessity due to injuries to other players.

IMHO, that was an abject performance against a far better side than us.

A champions league winning manager against a decent young manager plying his trade with Benitez knowing exactly what we were about, how to counter our along the back passing and painfully slow midfield and apart from Bissouma ( who we are becoming a one man side with his skill) we had not the faintest idea how to play against them.

Oh how we could have done with a Grey or Townsend this season. Someone to give us pace as we looked so ponderous it was laughable at times.

Put that down to experience and hopefully we can learn that sometimes we will be outthought and outfought and move on.

PS. If Bissouma leaves we are seriously in the mire on that showing.

Given our injuries, Veltman not match fit, Gross slowing everything down when he got the ball, against what looked to me like a full strength Everton side with better players in nearly every position a result like this was always a likely outcome. Rafa’s Newcastle would not have outplayed us like that

Suck it up, they’ll be more days like these, even more if we don’t cover a couple of positions before the window closes.

With our current squad, just staying up will be achievement enough imo, as we will always have a couple of our best players unavailable.

It's football, it happens. We can't win every game.

If you offered me 6pts from 3 games at the beginning of the season, I would have bitten your arm off.

Onwards and upwards.

Similar thoughts.

It’s quite alarming to me just how average or worse we’d be without Bissouma. We’d miss his pace, class, positive demeanour.

During the game I wished “If only we’d signed Gray”. A game changer, direct, fantastic pace.

Put it down to the opposition having a good day and us not so much. We did not disgrace ourselves, they were just better than us all over the pitch. Or blame Potter, the easy option.

Yep, painfully slow, 2 CM's as wing backs. So easy to defend against. Poor performance and a wake up call for anyone who thinks this squad is strong enough for a top 10 finish

My instinct, usually, is it’s about the lack of tools at his disposal.

The following is never going to happen, but I’d love it we signed by the 1st Sept, first team quality specialist LB and RB’s, and a striker.

Loanees can apply.

Just outfought across the pitch today they were first to everything and had good movement in attacking areas. No complaints did not deserve anything from the game

On reflection our only real threat came from Trossard. He did try to make things happen. Other than that we were pretty clueless in the final third.

What a lacklustre performance today.

We have given sides like Everton good tough games at the Amex recently (they haven't won since today) but today we were so slow and offered very little. The players didn't look up for it and as a side something looked missing.

Oh well.

It was the perfect game at the perfect time and we came up short.

The ghosts of last season seemed to loom large, at least Everton aren't likely to get relegated.

My only disappointment (besides the result) was I didn't think we played with much intelligence.
With no threat down the right for the entirety of the second half Everton were the epitome of the big lad holding the little ones forehead, at arms length.

I saw enough of that last season to not want to see it again.

Beaten by the better side.

I just felt that we didn't have the pace to outrun them. Every time we got the ball and should have run with it, we cut back on ourselves as the player (especially Lallana) simply knew he didn't have the pace. Trossard was too small and not quick enough, Maupay wasn't a threat for the same reason, and Welbeck just got hustled off the ball.

I also felt we didn't use Bissouma enough today. He was the only player apart from Veltman who ran at them with real intent.

The stronger and better team won today. Disappointing, but a fair result.

PS : Richarlison... He becomes an even bigger twunt as every season passes, doesn't he! ???

By complete contrast to the Watford game, I sat in my seat for 99% of the game. Bored senseless from watching boys against men, the endless passing around the back going absolutely nowhere, increasingly pissed off. We helped make every single Evertonian a 9 or 10 out of 10, they won’t have an easier game all season …. until we visit Goodison.

True, apart from them being better than us all over the pitch, I thought it was pretty even. :lolol:

Well said, though the pass from Bissouma in the first half was worth the entry fee.

In fact we were okay for 25 mins but still didn’t look like scoring
