It has but i feel gutted it's over and that we didn't turn up when if mattered.

It was very hard to get there and it was all to easy to get knocked out.
All too easy to get knocked out?
Christ, we could've finished bottom of our group and crashed out pretty much after 3 games... instead we battled back to win a bloody tough group after losing the 1st game and going 2 down away in marseille. We were fantastic after that point and surprised everyone by topping the group

Then being unfortunate to get the toughest (but very exciting) draw we could've done against a) Roma and b) a very in form Roma, who we then faced without 2 of our most influential attacking players?
We gave a really good account of ourselves last night and another night would've had a couple more if it weren't for some fantastic keeping. Easy to say we should've moved the ball quicker at times, but easier said than done when you're facing such a resolute Italian team also determined to employ all the dark arts right from the off

Gave ourselves too much to do last week, but 4-0 wasn't quite a fair reflection of the game imo. Very unfair to say we didn't turn up when it mattered when you look at the bigger picture of our first EL campaign, who we faced, the injuries we've had... results like last week happen - it's football. Doesn't mean we didn't turn up. We could've easily been 1 up if the deflected shot had hit the inside of the post and not the outside

Agreed.

Especially the bit where RDZ accidently passed it to Lukaku, where he hit the post then when he skied it over on a 1 on 1.

Was all him
Dunk wouldn't have been left stranded one on one with him if we weren't playing this formation.

I agree with you 💯

youre taking "all too easy to get knocked out" in a different context to that meant.

Was only a reference to having one poor game in Rome in the KO stage when youre not fully at it, and the fragility of how easy it is for it to all slip away relative to how hard it is to get to that stage in first place.

In my opinion the big factor in the tie was that Roma were able to get a game out of their two star players (Dybala and Lukaku) whereas we were missing ours (Mitoma and Pedro).

Another cracking night 'supporting' the Albion in one of our most important games in years Mo ?

and on and on and :tosser:
The truth hurts the rose tinted brigade sometimes and if they troubled themselves to go to games more often ( particularly away from home ) they would form a more rounded opinion. I love RDZ to bits but that doesn't mean I can't criticise him. I sat and watched him get it wrong at Luton..Fulham and Roma. I was most hurt at Wolves. We had a real chance ( with the draw ) Was it our most important game for years...no. Last years FAC Semi Final was bigger. So was last week in Rome. It was bigger than tonight. We were playing for pride tonight. If I show frustration then it's because I know we are better than that shambles last week and shouldn't have to be trying to climb a mountain. I would have loved to have been there last night ( would have been my 33rd game in all comps ) but illness prevailed. I will be back and will still be moaning but one thing is for sure, after 59 years and a lot of games particularly in the lower divisions, my love for BHA will not diminish.

You think we set up in the right way in Rome? We didn’t we should have played five at the back four in midfield and spent 6O minutes kicking the ball in the stands.
I was merely pointing out that blaming the goalkeeper, when there were other players on the pitch who made mistakes, is the go-to response from some posters.

We gave it a good go but Liverpool had 1 more shot but scored 5 more goals than us. Unless we improve getting more on target and converted we wont advance much beyond where we are. Personally its not our style but I wouldve stuck Van Hecke up front with Welbeck (2nd half) and pumped high balls constanty their way. Both won several aerial battles.

JPVH needs some serious heading practice. If you are going to get him in the box at corners, he needs to learn how to direct headers. He had at least 2 really good chances last night that he just completely mis-headed and not for the first time . Really rate him as a defender but not his heading capabilities (or lack of).

Whilst Roma were hell to watch at times we have seen firsthand how to game manage and keep tricky away ties tight in this competition. This will be a huge lesson we can learn from
The manager should have already known this especially with our main attacking threat injured.

Fair enough - sorry if I misread your post! 🙂

From a Roma perspective I really liked their diminutive little forward. Bandanzi, bandana, dwayne banzee, abondanza- something like that. Looked like a tiny fragile little thing but he was quick, good on the break and held onto it well and was tough as old boots

Hindsight I know, why did we not target their four yellow carded players in the second half. Attacking those players could well have resulted in at least one red. Roles reversed Roma would have niggled away at our players, got the crowd behind them.
Perfect situation for Veltmans dark arts
