I think the club needs to recognise that the Potter gamble has failed, and I would expect Bloom above all to recognise this. We are better than 2 years ago in one aspect of the game - we play more passes. However we are only comfortable passing the ball like this under minimal pressure.

Our defending is worse. We lack the same desperation to avoid conceding. We are not hard to break down. We are not unpleasant to play against physically. We do not counter attack well. We do not know how to unlock opponents who sit back.

In every aspect of the game which can win you matches, we are severely lacking. We do not have any personality or style. We turn up, go through the motions, and lose or draw.

I accept that the playing squad is thin on ability but it is capable of surviving in the PL. The blame has to lie with the coach. His aim was supposedly to move us away from a defence-first, counter-attacking style, into a possession team. We do have higher possession - this is actually quite a simple thing to achieve as an end in itself. If you want to have higher possession and score goals, win games, the players have to be coached to move and pass effectively, often using preset patterns. Potter has not done this. We pass well from the edge of our box until just over the halfway line. Then, under pressure, we revert to hoofing it in the channels or down the line. We run out of ideas under pressure. Some of this is down to lacking players who can eliminate opponents with skill. However it is more down to poor coaching. In achieving this, we have sacrificed defensive solidity.

Unfortunately, Potter is becoming our Brexit for some supporters. Having said they would be happy to be relegated playing better football, we are now in the process of getting relegated with a higher percentage of possession. Some Potter fans will dig their heels in and say they miss the Championship and this is what they wanted. Some are already up in arms that we are so bad, and haven't realised that the fantasy of playing like Brazil 70 with mediocre players in the PL is just that.

We need to change as soon as possible. Those who are peddling the line thay we can go and dominate the Championship need to realise that our better players will leave and we will be in a dogfight from day one. Potter is not an inspiring manager. He is a thoroughly decent man but has achieved nothing in the game and is not a figure players are giving their best for. He is not a coach that aspiring players are going to be queuing up to play for.

We need a new manager and a couple of new players and January is the time to do it. The 'long term plan' is a myth and there's is no evidence that we are moving forward.

Surely it’s a bit of both? The first half went surprisingly ok but Potter was too late with his subs IMO. And leaving Welbeck and Connolly on the bench when chasing the game was criminal. Not to mentioned our continued drop in form during the second half of games makes you wonder what Potter is telling the players at half-time.

We all have our favourites but a lot do not like Connolly on here, I don't know his reasons but I respect them as he wants results and perhaps He didn't want to risk injury or fitness in this game as he may want Connolly pace in the Wolves game?

I know some have said this about the second half but he has had us playing better in the second half at the time also but some forget these games.

I still fully back him and hope that Bloom will back him if he can this window even if he hates splashing the cash in January, as you don't get any sales!

Does that mean 1 home game won in all of 2020?

Yes, and that was a last minute winner where we probably didn’t deserve it.
To go into a game at home with no recognised strikers is simply not good enough. Too slow to react to their first substitution when we were obviously needing more energy on the pitch.
No pace anywhere today left us looking toothless again.
With no Lallana, no Lamptey and no Wellbeck we look a very poor team today bar Sanchez and Dunk.
Potter almost treated this as a free hit, against a team who are just one place above us.
We need a change. Whether that’s the manager or a slightly more direct style I don’t know but if you keep doing the same things you get the same result.
Wolves at home will be vital. We absolutely must win that or we are looking down the barrel re relegation.
I wonder what’s going through Ashworth’s mind at present. Not many well paid Directors of Football in the Championship. Time for him to make some decisions. Whether that’s bringing in a striker or a change of manager I don’t know. I really think it should be a striker as I’m not sure that we have the quality to improve that much under a new manager.
Or, are we just prepared to see it through this year and think that relegation isn’t a disaster. I would think that that’s very risky with the players that we would undoubtedly lose.
Overall, a 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal isn’t a disaster in itself, it’s the two wins all season, one home win in 2020, and the strange, almost defeatist tactics that is a trend that we can’t accept.

but he had a completely different 'up top' ....

maybe the players aren't up to it so perhaps changing the manager will get something out of them because Potter certainly isn't.

Or maybe he is frustrated by Barber saying he has nothing to spend when he knows we are so close to winning enough games to be safe by a margin???

So he is showing B&B why he needs a wedge because the cutting edge is not there.

Ah, sorry m’lord!

Got exactly what the team selection deserved tonight.

Couldn't agree less. As bizarre a starting line up as it was, for some/many even, we had the edge in the first half. The idea worked.

The mistake , or chink in Psychotters plan was not making any change to counter the reaction from Arsenal. Which was inevitable. GP failed there. He could have done a CH, shuffled positions and/or made a sub at half time, come out to defend the counter and play them on the break as well. Maybe take off Propper who was tiring, and bring on Welbeck? Whatever, It's clear Potter doesn't know how to win games 'ugly' and our players aren't good enough to play Pottinker ball and win.

Somethings got to change.

Um. Yes that’s a complete and utter lie.

When have I ever discussed the tracker or written a result off due to the tracker? Find a quote where I did. I dare you, but I know you won’t be able to.

I 100% know I never have as I don’t really care for the tracker. No issue standing by my own words but don’t create something I never said. Nasty piece of work.

Mate, this will be the 3rd and final time...if you refuse to acknowledge or understand it this time then there’s nothing else I can do.

My comment was referring to you using our BUDGET as an excuse, not the tracker which you keep talking about for some weird reason

Nice job calling me a nasty piece of work though, despite the fact I’ve not been abusive, aggressive and have done nothing post opinions that you dislike, it paints quite a picture.

Please don't blame MacAllister, Jahanbakhsh, Bernardo or Propper. I believe it was the first start of the season for all of them. We are not where we are because of them. We were not banging them in exactly before this game either and neither MacAllister or Jahanbakhsh are center forwards. Very unfair to be used as such when they need to play behind a center forward and shooting from outside the box or getting crosses in the box. I think all four did very well tonight.

And March, Maupay and Trossard did not change anything once they came on.

Oh come on. There's been a lot of games recently and Arsenal thought they could win the game by only trying for the second half.

They were right.

Their lack of effort in the first was nothing to do with us.

I honestly think Ashworth has to take a large part of blame, he has failed to bring in players so desperately needed. Our squad is unbalanced, how many teams sometimes take the field with 4/5 centre backs in the side

:dunce: said it time, and time again - Vaga really struggles with critical thinking. Be nice to him DFP. :dunce:
