I like Brezovan BUT for all his brilliance most of the time he is ALWAYS liable to make a serious howler during a game (think Wycombe, Charlton away and today). He reminds me a bit of David James.

Can we afford to keep him as first choice next season on this basis?

No.

Has he 'really' been that good lately? The defence have tightened up, and he hasn't let in much as a result? He hasn't been brilliant by any means. As soon as the defence loosen, a la Hartlepool and today, he lets em in. Free kick has certainly saveable, and coming out was horrific.

Keep him, as ideal back up.

After the abuse I received yesterday about suggesting that The Albion need to sign a top class keeper, do i understand that Brezovan make another costly mistake today?

At the moment he is the best we have so he has to stay.

I think we should get in Fon Williams from Stockport who have just been relegated and keep Brez as back up for next season.

I hate to say it, but I would probably get rid of both of them in the summer and invest in a proven keeper and use Mitch Walker as the bench keeper on match days. If the first choice gets injured you can easily get a decentish keeper on loan for a few games.

No point in having 2 keepers at the club that are OKish. The spine of the team needs to be strong and that starts with the keeper.

Would have Brezovan as a reserve. Desperately need a new goalie. Time for Michel to go........ I'm sorry to say......

I'd love to see Michel back for Tuesday. If a keeper makes a blunder then he should lose the shirt.

That is very harsh on Brezovan. This is his first costly error since coming back into the team and he is so dominant in the air (he caught everything yesterday but made one mistake that was costly). The annoying thing is he makes one error and people forget about the fact he won us the game at Oldham, was great at Colchester, played well in most other matches. Whether Brezovan should be first or second choice next season is up for debate but there is no way he should be released. Kuipers on the other hand I agree should go as he is so injury prone that he cannot be relied on to stay fit which means you rely on loanees/Mitch Walker.

As for a new keeper, Fon Williams would be good if we can get him and him and Brezovan competing for the number one shirt would be fantastic.

Agreed - Brian Clough always said that the two most important players at the club were the striker and the keeper. He paid a lot of money for Peter Shilton but it paid off big time.

I do disagree on keeping a player that is not really good enough to start a game. Ideally in each position you want 2 players and you do not mind too much which on starts. However that is not going to happen with keepers, as you are never going to get a really quality one down here as back up.

Brezovan is an odd player, he looks solid for 89 minutes, but he seems to have a David James moment in him most games. I just think keeping him means again we are settling for a player that can do a job, rather than real quality.

I think to be fair we do need another keeper in the summer, the question I would ask is whether they need to be number one or two. It is up to Poyet, who clearly rates Brezovan and quite rightly as he has been fantastic in our recent run. Someone mentioned the defence tightening up has helped him but I think he helps the defence as he usually (with yesterday being the obvious exception) makes good choices about when to come and not to come for a ball and generally catches them.

could have had brez and kuipers in goal for the free kick and it would have still gone in (from what i could see from c block anyway)

I agree but we need the quality for the number one keeper. Not many quality keepers would be prepared to be on the bench so keep Brezovan as number two and release Kuipers.

The biggest thing that has helped the defence is the 2 full backs that came in, we have stopped conceeding stupid goals from the flanks. No surprise since Painter has been injured and Barnet bound Hoyte has come back in that we have started to look shakey at the back.
