OK a travesty/disgrace whatever you want - but the point I was making is obvious isn't it?

I don't think a comparison of 'who loses most' is the most appropriate way to look at a matter like this. Both would be losers and this is a deadly serious issue; no more to say than that.

Why is a Romanian or Albanian criminal worse than a British one; why be obsessed with nationality rather than behaviour? It's all a bit weird.

I would think that the point would be that British criminals are not better than Romanian or Albanian criminals, but British criminals are our responsibility, Romanian or Albanian criminals shouldn't be.

I think the appropriate term is 'racism'.....

Australia deals with Australian criminals. But if I, as a Brit, have a criminal record, they won't let me in. Does that make Australia racist towards Brits?

No it doesn't.

Don't blur the lines when it comes to racism. It's counter productive if you are opposed to racism.

Exactly. I was thinking along the same lines -we have enough of our own criminals, and so can do without foreign ones as well.

Yes, I agree totally, but was responding to a poster who seemed to be saying that it would be our fault due to wanting to leave the EU. Of course everyone would lose, which is why I would be surprised, given whatever Brexit comes to pass, if the level of cooperation diminishes. It just would not make sense.

Not true. You can visit Australia with a criminal record.

He's wrong a few things.

quite a lot wrong i think, he ignores his own premise (its the same deal with a new cover page and NI amendment) to say a deal cant be done in time. there is a short review, amendment to existing legislation (ready to leave in March), and deal passes.

What type of criminal record ???

Officially anything that didn't result in a custodial sentence totaling 12 months, but even then the Australian authorities would have to make make an individual request via Interpol to access the PNC to actually check somebody randomly, which isn't ever to going happen in reality.

Same as visiting The USA - unless you're on Home Office or equivalent watch list, are currently released from prison on license, have committed an offence that has given you notoriety, unfortunately share the same name as someone with notoriety (I used to know a bloke called Paul McGuinness who had a brother called Martin for example) or are a 21 year old male from Bradford called Muhammed, who's just spent 6 months in Pakistan and is travelling to New York for the first time on his own - you can enter The USA no problem on The VWP, all things considered. Plenty do.

Be the same here after Brexit with foreign criminals, but as as Nick Ross used to say - don't have nightmares.

I understand and agree with the point you are making that it is not racist to legislate against known foreign criminals; my point is criminal activity in the country should be condemned regardless of the nationality of the perpetrator i.e. we stand against criminality in a non-racist manner.

Not much makes much sense in practice at the moment in my opinion; that's why I would not rule out difficulties in security in the future.

Why should we let known criminals settle in the uk. Do you have good argument for a rapist, murderer, peodophile from another country to have free rein to settle here

Not at all; please see my clarification above. To link immigrants to criminality is what Trump does.... hopefully not a British PM.

Part of me thinks this is all a ploy.

They know this deal will be rejected as at best it’s on par with Mays deal and it adds to Tory election campaign.

What will be interesting is too see the reaction of those that have now claimed they voted for a no deal.

I agree. See 'A Different Bias' - 'A Brexit farce enters Endgame' on Youtube for a plausible analysis......

I’ll have a look for it

Also if the deal goes through I think Boris will be toast - he promised “a tiger in the tank” but he has given away more than May if reports at to be believed

So once a criminal always a criminal, or does that apply to only Romanian and Albanian criminals? Or do we keep any Brit who has committed an offence confined to the UK for ever and a day? Let's have some long term thinking on this rather than just knee jerk reaction.
