Of course it doesn't, but I'm not sure how what Australia does (or the USA for that instance) applies to the UK.

There are two issues in the UK (obviously), lets be honest.

A very fast influx of East Europeans that has now slowed and was completely in the gift of any previous Government (and future) to alleviate.

The second is where non European immigrants have failed to integrate and been allowed to congregate. In areas (mainly up North) that have lost their traditional industries there has been understandable discontent.

That has NOTHING to do with the EU.

Governments in this country have been a bit shit recently looking at the social efforts of immigration, but they didn't allow immigration for politically correct purposes. They did it because they thought (rightly or wrongly) the economy required it.

Anyway - all this talk of immigration and "taking back control" is a complete red herring. The whole mess is about the border in the Northern Island.

I'm sorry to say the but the thick as mince right wing of the Tory party forgot about the Union. "We'll sort it out later" simply means we forgot about it in the first place. Realising their mistake they are now looking to save face by dumping the Unionists in Northern Ireland.

Swallow it, you know who to blame.

Gibraltar returns an MEP along with the South West of England.
How any ex service people can just abandon Gib, is beyond me.

Good point. Right from the start of this miserable process I wondered what it would be like had Gib been a Brexiteer pet project. We would have been flooded with stories of 'brave little Gib' and its noble contribution to the war effort: Boris would have written pages of his ghastly sub-Churchillian rhetoric on the topic and accused those of compromising its territorial integrity of a treachery. These people are without shame.

Now that Baker Lite has abandoned the game, I see the remaining Brexiteers a bit like those participants in 'British Bulldog' games (and they'll take this as a compliment) we played at school where gradually the number of runners were whittled down and the odds of capture and defeat became overwhelming. I'm not complacent and I don't believe for one second that leavers are racist. I describe myself as a reluctant remainer, but that's due to my natural dislike of bureaucracy. I decided to vote remain in the morning.


Just a gentle reminder that the EU is one of the largest bureaucratic monsters the world has ever seen. It employs 55,000 people and approx 1:10 of those are on six figure salaries or higher. It is a ticket to ride on a bureaucratic gravy train that attracts many snouts to the trough.
For what its worth, I also dislike bureaucracy with a passion. I am attracted to wealth creators not those who attempt to strangle business with red tape to justify their own existence or find ever more ways to extract ever more sums of money from those who are trying to employ more people and re-invest in their businesses.

That’s strange. Despite working alongside colleagues from France, Switzerland, Italy, Holland, Greece, Austria amongst others, I’ve never once heard the term.

Never heard the phrase, and ive lived in the EU since the late 90s

I have friends in Athens, so not just travelling meeting hotel receptionists or business people. The French are also very proud of their country and don't take 'orders' from Germany

Well you'll never find anyone who says - 'hey, I love bureaucrats'. But just to introduce a bit of balance, this was a claim made by Nick Clegg a few years back

"The total size of the European bureaucracy is about exactly the same size as the number of people employed by Derbyshire County Council. Some super-state!"


Now he was being a bit naughty with the figures (he's a politician and was in a debate with a guy called Farage) but the 'fact' is that the number of these specimens (given the reach, budget and powers of the EU, especially when compared with Derbyshire County Council) is relatively tiny.


Vote and support Leave for all sorts of reasons, but the sheer size of the EU civil service is really not a good one.
