We're stuck of page 1 of the project fear handbook, The Irish border. You still have nothing to offer though...

It was highlighted as one of the biggest issues before the referendum, and here we are 6 years later without any solution and a complete unsustainable f*** up sitting in the middle of Irish sea.

See if you can guess what Brexit supporters were naive enough to be sold the word 'technology' as the solution :dunce:

Oh I have been "all over" pro remainer plooks before - and he was even more boring casting down judgements from his high horse - worry not.

Blimey, Plooks is hardly an example [emoji23][emoji23]

Everyone on here has a pop at him, he’s even managed to draw out some of the the less ‘I’ve got the power’ type moderators for goodness sake

It's about being boring and tedious.

Ppf ( CANCELLED ) is boring with his 5000+ posts of mindless slogans.

Bake lite ( CANCELLED) is boring - see above with less posts.

plooks ( self-CANCELLED) was boring from his high horse.

That is all.

Well a couple of searches and it appears most of the usual suspects took that one hook, line and sinker

We have offered a technological solution, us and the EU are currently discussing the technical aspects of this idea, If they think its a crap idea they need to come up with something better.
Only adjusting what has already been agreed. I suggested making the backstop temporary adding the ability to withdraw with x amount of notice (unlikely to ever be triggered) as I believe it would break the deadlock so we could officially leave and move to the future trade relationship negotiations. There's an awful lot of bluff and intransigence at the moment once we are officially out it should all calm down and the time pressure will reduce. The more comprehensive the trade deal the fewer problems at the borders and less need for new technological solutions.
the technology exists, the Irish and Europeans have been talking about it. the "fantasy" element was about time to implement, and given an extended transition period that problem is solved.
Assuming yes, I favour the smart border. They already use it for Sweden/Norway for a much longer border. The guy behind the technology here says it is very achievable for Ireland.
Next?.
I think as with most things it will be a fudge using clever language to satisfy both sides and will effectively be a soft border using some technology.
But in spite of your superior knowledge, the border between Norway and Sweden functions OK. Okey doke..............
In regards technology used on trade between the UK and ROI, how do you think VAT and Export/Import function for companies trading with the ROI? Oh, and BTW, I do have first-hand experience of this as I have both worked in ROI and employed someone as a sub-contractor from the ROI in my own company. Companies have to declare their exports/imports (EC Sales). That is how the current situation works with the over-the-border trade. This would be the basis for the future - based on mutual recognition of standards.
you can try 100 times, my answer is still the same, i believe the technological solutions the EU and the UK are discussing with regard to the Irish border will not result in the fallback draft customs union option outlined that as caused so many remainers to rejoice today thinking we have screwed the Tories.

I just hope they haven't received any e-mails from Nigerian Princes lately :lolol:

I have to say as much as I think he’s a **** of the highest order who should be spending his remaining years on this planet worrying about more important things, I have to say that is quite a piece, WZ [emoji122][emoji122][emoji6], it now makes sense as to why he’s been a bit MIA on this thread, I bet you wish you could come up with stuff like this rather than reposting Daily Express headlines [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

The difference being - I don't really care that I got it wrong - NI are welcome to the border.

The difference being - I don't really care that I got it wrong - NI are welcome to the border.

We were in good company ...

The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, said he is willing to consider new ways to solve the Irish Border issue.

The 67-year-old Frenchman also said he was very concerned about the Irish Border issue but that the EU was open to discussing different - possibly dispersed and new technological - ways of checking goods crossing the Border.

"We are ready to simplify these checks, to have them carried out at a number of different places and have checks, thanks to technical means, which could take different forms," he said in a transcript released by the British parliament.

"They could be dispersed. They could take place in different places, on board vessels, in ports outside Ireland, they could be done using technological means, they could be dispersed, as I said, or simplified in technological terms."

So, suggesting this was some outlandish option unworthy of consideration is of course untrue.

To be fair, you did make it clear you weren't bothered what happened to NI all along (in fact I think you said you wanted a United Ireland and Johnson's Irish Sea Border has certainly moved things that way, more significantly than anything the republicans achieved in the last 100 years). It wasn't as if you were an ardent Unionist who was then stupid enough to vote for a border in the Irish Sea :dunce:

Imagine that. Being a Unionist who has done more for the Republican cause than anyone has managed in 100 years, voting for a completely unimplementable Irish Sea Border solution and then, years later, still desperately hoping for a magical technical solution to dig you out of the shitshow you've created. I'm sure nobody would have been that foolish :lolol:

Tomorrow at midnight any UK citizens in Europe overstaying will be introduced to Brexit reality, not the fantasy Johnson promised in 2016...
