Bank of England Governor’s speech – a few highlights from comments he made about the EU

“This is a standard that the EU holds no other country to and would, I suspect, not agree to be held to itself.”
“This is unrealistic, dangerous and inconsistent with practice.”
“But that is rule-taking pure and simple. It is not acceptable when UK rules govern a system 10 times the size of the UK GDP…”
“Indeed, there are other countries, such as the US and Switzerland that have regimes for small banks and have been determined equivalent by the EU in many areas.”
“I believe we have a very bright future competing in global financial markets underpinned by strong and effective common global regulatory standards.”

And why do you think the BOE Governor would say that ?

You do understand that this whole 'services being missed out of the Brexit deal' is part of the race for de-regulation, as is the grab of the Swiss share dealing, to ensure that we won't get passporting and equivalence from the EU. Why would the major financial backers want to keep all the EU regulations, like the ones introduced after the credit crunch, when they have the opportunity to compete with Singapore ?

Why would insurers want to reduce their capital requirements ?

BoE rules out big capital reduction for insurers after Brexit

Solvency II rules, inherited from Britain’s membership of the EU, are under review, amid calls from insurers and lawmakers for changes to keep the sector competitive. The rules seek to harmonise EU insurance regulation between states, and primarily concern the amount of capital that EU insurers must hold to reduce the risk of insolvency.

You were told there was no such thing as a 'Good Deal' - You wouldn't believe it
You were told that Brexit would cause problems with the NI border - You wouldn't believe it
You were told that Brexit would cause problems for Exporters - You wouldn't believe it
You were told that Brexit would cause problems for the Fishing Industry - You wouldn't believe it
You were told that Brexit would cause problems for the Sevices industry - You wouldn't believe it
And we're still 'taking back control' running with 'light touch' open borders, wait and see the impact of that come July if we finally manage to put some customs controls in place

And you still haven't worked out who the people reaping the 'benefits' of Brexit are, because I can assure you, none of them post on NSC

It's quite amusing watching Napoleon trying to construct an argument, bit like a small child who gets a 20 piece Elephant jigsaw tryimg to hammer the pieces into a penguin shape.

Amusing isn’t a word I’d associate with a sad old man who pretends he has an active life and doesn’t spend every waking minute on NSC.

I’d imagine he even has a reminder set on his desktop to go a post on a random non Brexit thread to avert his one trick pony persona, amusing certainly not, certifiable probably and concerning definitely, he’ll be back to trot out his “Anything but Brexit “ line, a line his partner trots out to him on a daily basis I’d imagine.

Great post, your'e making a big difference..thanks for sharing [emoji106]

Still wondering why you won't post under your original account name though.... is it embarrassment or thread banned?
Have you considered a career as a psychoanalyst

And they said satire was dead.

Are you some sort of power freak?

You appear obsessed with it.

If it smells like El Pres and sounds like El Pres.........

It fooled me, I thought the post was from the original....

My goodness it's been a busy day or so for the ANYTHING BUT BREXIT Brigade to make their considered contributions towards the Brexit debate

One thing that the two of you have proven me completely wrong on though, even I didn't think I would see the day where Pretty Pink fairy was the most well read and best informed Brexiteer left on this thread :lolol:

A vivid imagination indeed, but why would someone like yourself be so bitter about what I do with my time ? I'm sure I'm not the first person who has taken a well earned retirement and chosen to use the fruits of their labour enjoying it with partner, family, friends and activities. I haven't been able to travel as much as I planned over the last year if that makes you feel any better  Maybe you just need to remember, you're a winner

Anyway, back on topic

Irish PM warns EU will only 'fine tune' Northern Ireland Brexit rules

The Irish PM today insisted the EU is only looking at 'fine tuning' the Northern Ireland protocol despite rising anger about trade barriers with Britain. Micheal Martin played down the prospect of significant changes as he blamed 'teething' problems and urged unionists to 'pull back'.

The scale of the issue was underlined today as a survey showed 38 per cent of businesses trading between Northern Ireland and mainland Britain had seen the volume of goods fall over the past fortnight. As part of Brexit negotiations, the UK and EU agreed to the Northern Ireland protocol which is designed to avoid the need for a border on the island of Ireland.

Since the arrangements came into force on January 1, supermarkets have reported empty shelves while concerns have been raised that Northern Ireland's place within the UK is being undermined.

In fact, this was the very issue we were discussing when you said you would 'give more thought to it' 3 months ago. Any ideas for prospective solutions as I can't see any obvious ones ?

You’re embarrassing yourself, all this and the post before proves, is you’re not as active as you’d like us all to think and and as for partner, family and friends I only hope in real life you’re not as big as a Brexit boor as you are on here [emoji6]

They had a choice customs union or border inside the UK, they chose the latter. Just have to get used to it as Govie said "best of both worlds!!"
