Imagine being away from Britain so long that you no longer have any concept of Irony :lolol:

Don't worry. I can't imagine that any regular NSC poster would think you capable of contributing anything serious to the Brexit debate

they ain't the only ones ....all the time they've got you focused on when your vaccines arriving/available it aint gonna get any better , strange and worrying times ahead for all but the reasonably affluent.

The country is gaslit and the media is starting to get surpressed here and less balanced every year.

Covid is a gift for Tories, even though they are f**king it up its the perfect cover for the epic Brexit fail. It remains to be seen if half the public realise what the hell is going on

unfortunately the ones who get what's going on will be painted as something they aren't by the authorities/ media and low and behold you'll still be in lockdown in july ....this is a very worrying time as we squabble amongst ourselves the establishment is dividing us and corralling us into different corners , we still have our football , cricket , rugby and tennis to watch though ......figure that out..

You would think that other social media platforms would be a better choice for our little infestation of EU trolls ..

... poor use of resources, just one of the many reasons why the Remain campaign failed.

In other news (you won't read in the Guardian) ..

A month on since the end of the Brexit transition period, the Port of Dover is pleased to already be welcoming over 90% of the freight traffic volumes typical of this time of year following the significant stockpiling experienced before Christmas.

This demonstrates that the Short Straits continues to provide the most resilient and preferred route to and from Europe.

After years of preparation with partner organisations in the UK and in France to ensure trade continues to flow smoothly, border systems are operating efficiently and customers are quickly getting on their way.

Sarah West, Chief Operations Officer at the Port of Dover said:

“I’m really encouraged to see such a positive start to the New Year as we adapt to the new systems and processes involved in a new, post-Brexit transition era.

Our operation has proved its resilience and flexibility in the past by successfully adjusting to many major changes in our external landscape and I have great confidence that it will continue to do the same.

The message to hauliers is that as long as you come to Kent border ready and with a negative COVID test, then it won’t be long before you are on your way to France on the shortest ferry crossing.

My thanks go to our team here at the Port, our partners and customers for ensuring that together, we are prepared.”

Disappointing news for those hoping to see 50-mile Brexit lorry tail backs that they predicted obvs.

CLAIM:

According to a RHA survey “Exports going through British ports to the EU fell by 68% last month compared with January last year” (Observer, 07/02/21)

RESPONSE:

We do not recognise this figure and further details from the survey have not been shared.

Flows are monitored on a daily basis by the Border Operations Centre. In the last full week (30 Jan to 5 Feb) both outbound and inbound flows (across all UK ports) were close to normal, at 95% outbound and 96% inbound, in spite of the impact of COVID lockdowns on trade.

For the same week, flows outbound specifically across the Short Straits were at 82%.

The Port of Dover’s own data confirms that volumes are close to normal.

CLAIM:

Richard Burnett, Chief Executive of the RHA “told the Observer that in addition to the 68% fall-off in exports, about 65%-75% of vehicles that had come over from the EU were going back empty” (Observer, 07/02/21)

RESPONSE:

This does not reflect the data from our French counterparts, which puts the figure at closer to 50%.

It is an entirely normal part of freight flows to have empty lorries on the outbound leg from the UK into the EU - this has always been the case.

Indeed, estimates suggest that prior to 1 January, around 30% of all outbound lorries were empty.

Taking the impact of Covid-19 on economic activity into account, the current levels are not surprising when compared to normal outbound flows.

Lots of talk of traffic flows but zero response to the main point of the survey.

Edit: not zero response, just that they don’t recognize the figure. Not saying it’s not true then.
