Does any car deal include the compensation our Snake oil salesmen offered to Japan to cover tariff costs in the event of no deal? They haven't forgotten about it according to Japanese media. If it does, under WTO it will have to be offered to other countries. Could be quite expensive. What actual positives are you seeing that you are contuing to give these charlatans your support?

I hate to be pedantic, but under the EU/Japan deal the UK had certain quotas within the EU for Agricultural Imports that we could Import to Japan tariff free. Under the UK/Japan deal we don't, but we are allowed to use up any of the EU quota that they don't use. So, it is replacing an existing deal, but on terms that are decided by the EU (a third party that we have no influence in). I guess this is one of the benefits of negotiating our own deals
Still, only another 39 free trade agreements to negotiate in the next 10 weeks to simply stay where we are with trade with the rest of the world, outside of the EU.

wasn't the Japan deal the one where we agreed stricter state aid rules whilst trying to argue for the opposite with the EU, completely weakening our position?

So basically pretty much a cut and paste of Japan EU deal, the one we chose not to get involved with, the one that will allow Japanese cars into our shores tariff free
Doesn't bode well for Toyota, Derby and Nissan, Sunderland

I'd forgotten about that.
I haven't checked the detail of the signed deal, but believe you are right. Certainly a few weeks back, in order to get the Japan deal, we had agreed to abide by the State aid rules that Japan agreed with the EU, whilst claiming the state aid rules that the EU want, are one of the major areas stopping us agreeing a deal with the EU

Never knew a Passport being blue would be worth losing free access to all of Europe AND extra queuing time at the airport, what a colour !
To be fair we can have hours of fun gazing at it and admiring the colour while queuing at the EU passport controls.
