The "Citizens of nowhere" and "Crush the saboteurs" rhetoric was, I think, the final straw for many, and those were right at the very start of the process. And it's not just May, almost nobody on the Leave side has sought to build bridges, it's been a constant barrage of "will of the people" or "you lost, get over it". So is it any wonder Remainers turned around and said "fine, up yours"?

But the problem ultimately stems from the Tory party, which already had only a very small majority, deciding it should negotiate the biggest change to Britain in the years since the war entirely alone. The arrogance of that decision is what has led us here more than anything else.

It also doesn't help, when the Electoral Commission found that VoteLeave broke the law, and files handed to the police for investigation, it has been ignored by the government. Maybe even sat on, by the government as nothing should derail their purpose.

The path should be very straightforward: May's Deal voted down > No Deal Voted down > Article 50 extended > People's Vote > General Election.

If Labour had any sense it would force Corbyn to resign, appoint Starmer as leader, kick out McDonnell, Abbott and other Corbyn loyalists, declare war on anti-Semitism, extend an olive branch to The Independent Group and the Lib Dems to build an anti-Tory consensus.

At least this would determine what the people want rather than what MPs want

Thank you, the point is why risk causing offence by telling the truth when a little white lie hurts no one.
Yeah I can accept a little lie to avoid causing offence, that's fine. The problem with the comparison is that you were going to leave the party at some point anyway, regardless of the trouble brewing. It was no big deal to you that you left a little early. So you're accepting that regardless of what happens with Brexit (even with a customs union, not affecting Honda), they were leaving anyway. It seems that they're leaving because Japan have free trade with the EU, not because we might be leaving the EU (possibly with a free trade deal).

Anyone listening to May address Parliament? She sounds ill, you can’t help sensing she is being crushed by all this.
Just another day for Mrs May, she loves being humiliated.

So why waste money investing in Swindon and then to leave early?

So why waste money investing in Swindon and then to leave early?

In order to make its bid more successful, the factory had begun installing new equipment to build the hybrid model, as well as making necessary changes to the plant’s layout.

The reason for this was the equipment in question had a particularly long lead time, so needed to be ready in advance if the model was going to be allocated to Swindon.

In a statement, Honda said: “Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd was in the feasibility stages of new model allocation and had begun preparation to bid for the next generation of Civic. The new Civic was to feature a petrol-electric hybrid within the model line-up.

“In order to prepare for future models, installation of some equipment and changes to the layout of the plant had to take place before the model allocation was confirmed. This was due to the long lead time for ordering and installation of this equipment.”

However, these efforts eventually proved to be fruitless, as it was confirmed in February 2019 that the factory will indeed be closing.

David Hodgetts, managing director of Honda UK, told Auto Express that the inherent issue faced by the Swindon plant was that the only model it produced was the Civic, making it a “single-sourced factory”.

Quite amazing that people on here are still desperate to link the Honda decision to Brexit despite Honda clearly saying the decision was not related to Brexit. Perhaps Honda are also shutting the factory In Turkey consolidating production in Japan because of Brexit ....
