You do realise that we all know that chlorine washing of Chicken is not the major problem in itself, we all know our tap water is chlorinated and swim in chlorinated pools. It is that by allowing it, it allows poor hygiene and welfare practices to continue.
Eggs in the EU are not permitted to be washed, in the US, they must be washed, the EU stance is in part to ensure that egg producers in the EU do not allow their birds to live in filthy conditions.

I lived in Switzerland a few years ago when they had a referendum where the people voted to curb immigration from the EU. They are now considering an even tougher one. Their largest party in government, the Swiss People's Party (their equivalent of UKIP) keeps getting stronger as the Swiss see the mess the EU is making of so many things. Swiss people want to preserve their way of life, and who can blame them. They will never join the EU.

Ok so Norway and Switzerland are desperately wishing to join the EU like all the recent poor eastern European countries, which the rich countries have to pay for to try and get them to same level.

I guess you were also calling people idiots when for certain reasons we didn't join the euro to get into this project more seriously. Most people would think we dodged a bullet there with hindsight.

They did however introduce legislation that some jobs were advertised through local agencies before hiring a non Swiss person, as a way of honoring the vote to some extent.
Curbing free movement is popular in Switzerland with the voters, yet not so many are keen on it at the expense of all the treaties with the EU, about 60% would prioritise maintaining the treaties over curbing immigration, 35% the other way and 5% undecided.

I see, you must be one of those rich people that thinks that you shouldn't have to pay taxes towards the running of state schools because you send your kids to private ones. Most of us agree with the principle that the best off should pay to help the less well off. It doesn't make us Stalinists.
