They gained votes = seats = more power by suggesting they were going to have a certain position on Brexit and the negotiations. A position which they have now conveniantly abandoned.

Yep, the Tory voters were shafted as well but most of the manifesto has been dropped because they couldn't be sure it would get a majority.

Shafting is telling students 'I'll Deal with it' and then backtracking when they realise it's unaffordable. Shafting is being a supporter of leaving the EU all your political life and then backtracking because it now suits your political agenda. Yes they have shafted the millions of Labour voters that voted for Brexit.

Guilty. My experience of Momentum though - well fit. All of them. I understand women having a differing opinion to yourself is disturbing, but Labour seems in great shape to me.

Ah your devotion to the Dear Leader becomes marginally more understandable ... innit for the totty.

Nissan to increase production at Sunderland plant by a fifth

Nissan will increase production at its Sunderland plant by a fifth and double the amount of parts it sources from within the UK in an attempt to offset higher costs following Britain’s withdrawal from the EU.

The Japanese car giant will step up production by 20pc to around 600,000 vehicles per year, the Nikkei Asian Review reported.

Win win.

"The investment in the Sunderland plant could be worth up to £14m, it was reported."

So basically around the same amount as we paid for Izquierdo.

Economy back on track.

Could be worth up to a 14m :lolol: This is probably offset by the embarrassing and desperate trip Theresa May is currently undertaking in Japan.

Just noticed the pound is now £1.07 to the Euro. How much further will it need to go before the government do something? Serious question.

And what was the sweetener to stay and invest in the UK post Brexit given that we will be out of the single market and customs union.

Also indication is that Japan are not keen on discussing trade deals with the one rather than the 27, so how much groveling will Mrs May be prepared to do in an attempt to get some positive headlines

I wonder what assurances Nissan wrangled out of us.

"U.K. Business Secretary Greg Clark offered the clearest insight yet into the government’s strategy for shielding manufacturers from Brexit, days after Nissan Motor Co. secured enough assurances to keep investing in the country.....

Clark said his letter to Nissan also contained promises to support training and innovation; to keep on regenerating sites to bring suppliers back; to being at the leading edge of research and development; and to pursue a strategy to keep U.K. industry competitive. There’s no extra public money involved, he said.

“They were the assurances that gave confidence and allowed these jobs to be safeguarded and enhanced,” Clark said. “A lot of things apply to the industry generally.”

We're begging.

"Theresa May is digging herself deeper into a hole by promising help to Nissan," Erik Nielsen, chief economist at UniCredit Bank AG told clients in a report on Sunday.

So it's a bad thing when the UK government promises to support training and innovation for the UK work force, regenerating sites, improve UK supply availability so we are competitive (+ no extra public money) ?

Whatever they did it appears to be working, which is also a good thing ... right?

A Japanese representative from their Embassy was on the Beeb this morning calling for our support and using our influence (security council etc) re the North Korea crisis. Perhaps NSC's Team EU representatives on this thread could give the Embassy a ring and tell them we haven't got any power/influence.

It's more like we promise to have a very favourable taxes. Would not be surprised to start seeing large tax breaks for multinationals who are threatening to leave, they know they're in a strong position. Other point is these car companies have sunk costs in the UK, so may as well put a brave face on it. The electric mini is a good example, they already make them here. Real question is why would anyone actually bring new investment to the UK right now.
