Well if its inevitable then going to the negotiating table with it in your back pocket is like sitting at the poker table with pocket rockets and having a massive grin on your face, useless! So why not end the uncertainty of 3 million eu citizens that make an important economic and social contribution to this country. Its morally right and right for the good of this country, we would be knackered without them and even more knackered if we receieved back the 90 year old leather skin lizards from Gibraltar!

The government showed their true colours when they tried to bypass parliament by using royal prerogative powers with Article 50. I'm waiting to which EU laws they try and water down in smoked filled rooms of Westminster. They cannot be trusted

Its not all Brexit to be fair, but their plant needs investment, but with all the uncertainty over tariffs, not sure if Ford really see the UK as the best option.

I'm afraid this bullshite is going to get worse once May officially triggers article 50. Brexit will be blamed on everything. If they can't find an angle on jobs to scaremonger about, then it will be about migration and how unwelcome migrants feel because of Nigel Farage and all the people who voted Leave.

The look on the faces of May etc in the Lords for the debate says it all.
We need the EU's in this country much more than the bingo players of Tenerife.
The only thing I can't understand is anybody trusting this government to make the right and fair decision, unless of course the mainly remainers on the front bench are hatching a plot along the lines of, right, you want Brexit, we will give you Brexit.

Do you believe that many leavers did not expect this? I would suggest thats a llittle naive.
I think we can see even here on NSC, many leavers telling great stories about East Europeans driving down labour prices and taking jobs, with this being one of the reasons for Brexit.

I think it has been mentioned many times that whilst wages have been driven down, no way were those that are already here would have to leave.

Maybe not on NSC, maybe though, but who would bother to check this thread. However, we both know that nationally, this is what a lot of brexiters wanted. East Europeans attacked, one even killed. Mass reports of people being told to get out of the country along with, youre leaving the country. Come on. Lets get a bit real.

I don't think it's as much a case of needing the EUs, as you put it. It's more about doing the decent and moral thing. Holding these people to ransom, using families as bargaining chips, is totally and utterly disgusting behaviour. And above all it's not the British way of doing things.

I think this amendment is a litmus test on leavers' true motivations. Those who were concerned with issues of governance, security or who saw greater economic development potential outside the EU should have no problem with giving people that came to this country legitimately to build new lives some degree of re-assurance. If your motivation was to punish foreigners then of course you would want to drag the uncertainty out as long as possible. 12 months ago we would have thought that upholding these rights was fundamental under any EU-related scenario. Just shows you how far many of us have moved.

It's pointless gesture politics...... why give away a bargaining chip before negotiations have begun? Do a deal that benefits UK citizens abroad the same as EU citizens here.... simple.
