Of course the number is important, 14% or 10,700 of our prison population are people not born here.......a truly shocking figure......and that is not considering whether the British prison population is accurate in light of the recent policy by HM Govt (of both flavours) to allow anyone to become a British citizen. Which is incidentally a handy way to manage migration numbers.

The report I attached from the DoJ clearly made reference to foreign nationals, it doesn't matter to me if it was rapist Pole or a murdering Pakistani, as a UK citizen I expect the Govt to protect its citizens as a priority. These statics indicate that is not the case regardless of whether they are from EU or non EU countries.

The facts are that with a foreign prison population the size of the one we have our politicians have failed its citizens........we need to keep the bad people out.

So because some foreigners are criminals and are in prison we should ban foreigners from entering the country and we can only do that if we are out of the EU?

Why do remainers persist in quoting the most extreme scenarios, when nobody has mentioned them?
The EU directive states 'Previous criminal convictions shall not constitute grounds for refusing entry to EU citizens'.Normal people don't want more degenerates here, despite their EU credentials,so please try and talk sense.

Because they said that the state should "protect its citizens as a priority" as a justification for limiting foreigners entering the country as some of them may then end up in prison. The truth is that the state does protect its citizens as a priority, but ultimately they cannot fully protect its citizens so it becomes a balancing act. So to then go on and say "our politicians have failed its citizens" is a null point.

The last census recorded 11.9% of the population as foreign-born (so including those who have become British citizens). According to the Ministry of Justice report I linked earlier "The foreign national population, however, still represents just under 12% of the total prison population." So what is it that's truly shocking here?

The facts are that with a foreign prison population the size of the one we have our politicians have failed its citizens........we need to keep the bad people out.

Feel free to send your Bad Person Detector to the Home Office; I'm sure that they'll be very excited to receive it.

Maybe we need a points based immigration system like, say, Australia to reduce this number? :lolol:

The facts......look them up!

A Norwegian view: are things really so bad outside the EU?
The British are being told that leaving might mean 'the Norwegian option'. From our perspective, we're doing very well indeed outside the EU, and our people, by a big majority, have absolutely no desire to join whatsoever.
When the British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn told the Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen that ‘Outside the EU we would have no say, this is something Norway has experienced’, an answer from the Norwegian Labour Party deputy leader Trond Giske came quickly. Talking to the newspaper Nationen Mr Giske replied to Corbyn: “I don’t think ‘it can be as bad as Norway’ really works to scare people off. Norway is regularly announced the world’s best country to live in. We have had the lowest level of unemployment in Europe throughout the financial crisis. We have one of the strongest welfare systems, the least inequality, the highest safety and the most trust, in addition to peace and wealth. I mean: How bad can it get? What does Corbyn fear?”

Don't bother mate. This is just another example of Fergus talking out of his arse without any research and without any joined up thinking.

I'm absolutely fine with that view but many people on here (look at Fergus just a few posts earlier) who want to keep EU nationals out. Norway has the same policy on EU citizens as any member state so how does going down the Norway option satisfy those people who complain about migration?

We don't have enough middle of the road jobs. There are young people who wouldn't fit or don't want to work in an office environment, or work in retail but would prefer to get their hands dirty and do a skilled job in Mechanical Engineering.

There are certainly not enough of these types of jobs around, just have to look on the job sites. Loads of cleaning, retail and carer jobs, but hardly anything in the field I mentioned.

It's why we have drawn so many people from abroad because the pay in the jobs I mention is rubbish, but for somebody from the say Eastern Europe with no skills or a decent education it is the same money as doing a highly skilled job back in their own country.

We are just creating more and more low paid jobs, it doesn't help anyone. Whether it is the Tories or Labour they have both been responsible for ruining Engineering in this country.

We need skills at all levels, but as a nation we should be aiming to up our proportion of skilled and highly skilled workers.

This is worth a read. Some frightening data in there on the gap we need to close over the coming decades.

The remain 'lead' over leave continues to grow as each day passes, albeit at a snail's pace. The NSC poll seems to have settled at c. 54-46 IN.

Actually I expected it to be far more in on here as Brighton is the ultimate lefty place.
Thankfully polls are irrelevant :)
Anyone know why the migration crisis never gets mentioned now?
I presume it's hush hush til after the referendum :)

In that case there should be more votes for out: the lefty parties (SWP, Socialist Party [TUSC], Communist Party et al) are all anti-EU
