Brexit or no Brexit you will need migrant labour to do season agricutural work, there are areas of the country where you can't gert local people to do it. Not everyone wants to work in polytunnels for 60 hours a week for 6 months a year, its good money but you have to work hard

Its the same situation is most parts of the developed world. I was in Taiwan recently, they use imported Phillipino labour

I guess it will ultimately drive the cost of food up until further mechanisation takes over doing away with yet more jobs

But the low prices has been achieved at the expense of extremely low wages paid to migrant workers and often under appalling contracts. Surely you can't be happy with that?

Have they? That's one reason of many.

Of course I'm not happy with that. Then stop the companies that are doing it.

Independence is like working for yourself, you make your own decisions etc. Many would like to work for themselves, complain about bosses making the money etc, but will not take the plunge, bit like those that support the EU. So some are happy to rely on 27 other nations, happy to have a powerful (atm) country rule the roost.....some want to get their independence back.

Bad analogy really as an independent worker obviously experiences this independence on a day to day basis. While being in the EU or out of it , Joe Bloggs won't notice the difference,apart from being worse off financially.

If one supermarket increases prices another will lower, so in the end it works out the same.

Ridiculuous statement. If the food costs more across the country, the supermarkets will "all" increase prices. They don't pick a price for goods out of the bloody air.

I don't care, fing banks. They are one of the big reasons everything went to pot in the first place. Not hard to forget the hundreds of people trying to get their money out Northern Rock.

I sympathise with your view, but at this point in time, the UK is dependent on Finanacial services. It's our only industry to provide a trade surplus and it is the industry making the most tax contributions to the treasury.
This is an argument for increasing our manufacturing capabilities, which is nothing to do with our EU membership, and which the development of is more likely to be hindered than helped by not being part of the single market.

I see May is in Switzerland talking about how her party is going to help regular working people. Do people really buy this bullshit? How many Tory leaders say this? And how many have actually done anything about it?

Your cut-out-and-keep guide to the state of the parties, vis-â-vis Brexit:

Conservatives: Hard Brexit, protracted over several years;
UKIP: Hard Brexit, no notice.
Labour: soft Brexit;
Lib Dems: second referendum;
Greens: reverse Brexit.

Does that sound about right?

Labour just about destroyed anything that was good about this country. We went from common sense to becoming a politically correct, super offended nanny state under this party, and they are still carrying it now, but it's even more extreme.

Before calling other posts ridiculous,you should check out EU tariffs on agricultural products.As a bit of a clue,they average out at 18%!So the sooner we are out of this euro-farce,the sooner proper food price competition will happen.I fully expect Waitrose to be more expensive for the same food,as most of its customers appear to be mugs.:lolol:

That's the crux of it.

To some people independence is so important they'd rather go through financial hardship to get it back.

The majority couldn't give a toss about independence but have to suffer when they won't feel any benefits of it at all. They'll just be poorer and more insular.

One Love is right. When the dust finally settles, the UK will probably have slightly less immigration and the British Parliament will get to decide on more legislation than it currently does.
But Brexit will mean we will live in a less tolerant society, with British people having fewer rights than their EU counterparts, and many will be poorer.

Whilst she was undoubtedly divisive , id be interested to know what you would have done at the end of the winter of discontent ? This country was on its knees then .

Again, you let your prejudice cloud facts. Min wage has gone up from £5.93 to £7.50 under the Tories from 2010 to now. Over 25% in a period of inflation of maybe approx 1% p.a.

I'm not saying it was great before, but bear in mind this was the rate inherited from your caring socialists.
