Lib Dems overturn 23,000 Tory majority and win Richmond Park by- election as new MP Sarah Olney says "F*ck you!" to Brexit. Wonderful woman, marvellous scenes.

Proper wake up call for the government over hard Brexit, we can't jump out of the aircraft without a parachute.

Triggering Article 50 is precisely that - but it will almost certainly still happen. Apparently the government (and the Corbynistas) think that we have to "respect the will of the people" no matter how much damage it does to the UK. I hope those most affected (the poor, less advantaged in our society) will thank them for their relentless pursuit of Armageddon in the years to come....

Imagine the long term damage to our democracy if the government and opposition don't 'listen to the will of the people' after having a democratic vote.

This thread is doing a great job calling out those on NSC who do not believe in democracy.

Drop me out mate, they voted against brexit in the referendum , all they've done is reaffirm that., you're trying to find things that aren't there.

Great for the Lib Dems but Richmond is about as clear a Lib Dem constituency as you're likely to find. 72% voted remain!

I don't call a 23k majority a clear Lib constituency

I wouldn't hold your breath - You're likely to get lambasted for suggesting that maybe, you know, could we just have a little clue about what the plan is?

Yes, because a complicated withdrawal and renegotiation of countless rules ,regulations and treaties , not to mention brinkmanship from both sides is likely to be knocked up on the back of a fag packet after a few months isn't it ? You're just criticising for the sake of it , if there were signs an agreement were starting to take place you'd say it was being rushed, grow up.

Clutching at straws is what springs to mind with this post.

Not clutching at owt chap, it will not really affect me in the long term. Just makes for interesting times. If 2 or 3 byelections went to candidates running on anti Brexit tickets then MP's might get more bold about enforcing the will of parliament.......

Not if they're in constituencies that voted 72% remain, as was the case in Richmond.

The majority voted for Brexit and we are rightly going ahead with it. I am completely on board with that and am genuinely interested in what we are going to get as a result of that vote. And I am somewhat surprised that there have been 23K posts, some highly vociferous, on something which none of us (including the government, as you rightly pointed out) have the slightest idea about.

And i know i've added to it :p
