I am going to get pilloried for this….. tin hat on. I know I live in a part of a UK which loves EU, hates BREXIT etc.
We have a free trade deal with EU. What leaving gives us is ability to turn to rest of world on our own terms (any government of any stripes) and say, we want to free trade with all of you, without straight jacket of having 27 other countries adding their own vested interest, which may not align to what the UK wants.

GDP of these countries is projected to be more than GDP of EU in next 5 years.

The thing being overlooked is whether we would be allowed to simply rejoin. There would need to be a vote by other members and we would need to decide whether it would be full EU remembership (unlikely at this moment) or if not we would need to create some unique situation where we would have access to the single market and customs union because other countries are part of other trading partnerships such as EFTA. Some people say we could simply join EFTA but the other members wouldn't want us. Norway and Switzerland style arrangements suit them because they are completely different economies on the periphery of Europe. It is far better for a large economy like the UK to be front and centre as full EU members

The only way I can see is being allowed to rejoin is if they shut anyway of people being able to leave without cast iron rules in place of what deal can be offered and massive fees to do so.


Or they make it impossible to leave.

There is a big world outside of the EU full of the UK’s natural skills to tap into into, whether it be manufacturing, agriculture, services, technology, IT and plenty more.
We should be more confident in our our people’s skills to take advantage of the global opportunities this provides to trade with other markets and economies.

Rejoining in the long term is imo the way to go.

However the country is not in any state to survive another long period of uncertainty nor to get the best possible deal for any application to rejoin.

Stop being so small minded. Have some ambition for our country to trade with the rest of the world freely. There are huge opportunities to tap into. We have a free trade deal with EU and don’t need to be in CU to do that.

Trading with Europe though has now become a nightmare. British companies are setting themselves up in the SM to trade with the block and EU countries collect their taxes.
We’re complete idiots imposing trade sanctions on ourselves to do business with our biggest trading partner. Sadly it won’t be the Brexit supporting billionaires like Dyson and Radcliffe that suffer, it is ordinary people that are seeing their living standards fall.

Starmer can’t fight the next election on this, so what we need is them to win the next election but not outright so they have to move to some form of proportional representation. This then allows the main parties to come to a best for country solution, (the extreme fringes of Labour (could call themselves Momentum or Socialists) and the Tories (already got their National Conservative brand in place)). Thus allowing proper decisions to be including the fact that Brexit has been a disaster and how we get out of the mess.
