Brentford v Swansea

125k for promotion, not bad.

and not true.

Quite apart from the fact that Swansea aren't even in the Play Off Final yet, let alone actually promoted, what about the other cash they've splashed out? I don't think it's even close to say that Leon has got them where they are on his own, especially as they were up there, or even higher wasn't it, when he signed for them. In fact you could say his influence has seen them drop out of the automatic promotion places.

Yes, he can score goals at this level. When he feels like it. No he can't score goals in the Championship, which is where we needed him to do just that. Instead he became disruptive and, as seems to be the trend with him, blamed everyone else apart from his own shortcomings (pun intended).

I reckon 125k for the chopsy little twat was a result.

My point is it became very clear early on in the season that we were struggling in the Championship (we were effectively relegated with the ridiculous capitulation to Millwall at Withdean on New Years Eve). Yet McGhee felt it necessary to flog off our most capable striker by a country mile because he couldn't man-manage him or play him in the correct position.

But hasn't the debate always been about whether Leon is a Championship quality striker? I've always thought it has been, hence highlighting how he can score in the division below is pointless.

Selling Leon was inevitable, I think. If his andMcGhee's relationship has detiorated to the point where LK is happy to publicly state how delighted he is at his former team being relegated, then I find it highly unlikely he would have signed a new contract. Therefore cashing in was the only option.

So it once again comes down to the question;

Do you want player A, who's really nice to everyone and is loved by all, but is frankly a bit shit?

Or do you go for player B, who's something of an arrogant little sod who rubs some people up the wrong way, but virtually guarantees you 25+ goals a year in League One?

I know which I'll go for.

A reasonable point but let's face it there's more to running a football club (and in particular the Albion) that just having a good player. I don't think LK's been around long enough to "guarantee 25+ goals a season in League 1".

I'm not bitter or anything but it'll more more disappointing for him to lose in the play off final in Cardiff! Sadly, I think Swansea will go all the way because they've got the big time (well for League 1 anyway) players.

Why not have a Richie Barker love in? - he's got plenty of goals since leaving us after MA didn't offer him a new contract (even tho the papers said he wanted to move back north, dad was ill, etc)

Clutching at straws again Kinky. We all know that it's a team game, not the Leon Knight show.

There are many posters on here who do anything to slag of BHAFC and MM - not sure why they support the club.

MA did offer him a contract, but he chose to go closer to home.

We'll we've all got our views on the Leon Knight affair, and I can't see many of us changing them now. So far as I can see, he spent long periods being asked to play on the wing or in midfield (I mean, 4-5-1 with CKR up-front when the boy himself admits he's rubbish in the air and is not a target man). I can see how Leon got increasingly frustrated and how he would resent the manager for that. It became a battle of wills and short of sacking McGhee, then Leon had to go. At least we both agree on that.

I think his record suggests he probably does, although I'll accept he's only hit that figure once;

16 for an average Huddersfield side as an 18/19 year old.
27 for us.
12 for Swansea in half a season, when in and out of the side.

As for the first point, you're right - but I think you need a mix of personalities and styles, and we're probably over-catered for in the "team player, gives 100%, limited ability" department. Creative, skillful players by their nature will be less consistent and flit in and out of games, but you need them in the team nonetheless. I fear we're rather light on that at present.
