Agree. They are lumping in people who go to a fair number of away games/cup games with those who hardly go to any.

ha! I’m 15 short so if a miracle occurs we’re both ok but I suspect we’ll be part of the scramble - it’s the one PL ground I haven’t been to yet!
Also seems odd that there are 6000 in a range of about 130, but another 6,000 in a range of 27 if that allocation is correct

Tier 2 = 25% of STH
Tier 3 = 50% of STH
Surely it's 1725 in the top tier (based on 10% allocation), then 5750 in tier 2 (based on number of STHs being 23,000), then 11500 in tier 3!
Everyone seems to be making assumptions based purely on the points difference between tier 1 and 2 and then between tier 2 and 3! The club have a formula and if 25% of season ticket holders into tier 2 with a points range of 137 and another 50% fall in the next tier with a points range of 39 then that's how it works!

Don’t know. Depends whether the 25% in T2 includes those in T1 and T3 includes T1 and 2. Doesn’t affect my comment much though - still have a large number in a very small points range in T3. Not making assumptions, just generally interested

At the top of the points list are people like jackalbion who go to every game but there will not be many like him. The next group down, say about 50 points back will be those who go to a lot of games but by no means all who are probably scattered across the next 80 points or so. Then behind them will be others who go to some away and all the home cup games who will be i would think a much larger number but spread over fewer points. Then the vast majority of season ticket holders who do not do away games as a rule and may only have their season ticket points plus a few home cup games, in essence a very large number spread over a very small points range.

For the first time maybe in the Amex era, I've dropped out of tier one for an away game. I've done a couple less far flung aways this year but I've still attended 23/34 games this season.

Lots of complaints about “missed out by 5 points etc etc” they’ve got to have the cut off somewhere, some you win (like yer man above) some you lose.
It’s age old really, I remember the Blackpool match of 1978, I forced myself through the turnstile as the old bill and a hapless steward were trying to get the gates bolted shut. Some of my mates got locked out

Correct. I pasted this in another thread yesterday, but this is a direct copy and paste of an email "conversation" with the club on this subject last year:
Window 1 – the allocation (normally around 3k)
Window 2 – 25% of STHs & 1901 (around 6k)
Window 3 – 50% of STHs &1901 (around 12k)
Window 4 – all STHs & 1901 (around 24k)
So, assuming a large allocation, the tiers would be 3k, 3k, 12k, 12k in size respectively.

TBH the current system works as a good motivator to anyone who likes to do a fair few aways.
Tier2 is a lottery, but Tier1 is a guarantee.
Anyone close to the top of T2, will end up doing a few more difficult trips to reach the T1 status.
It definitely worked for me.
just missing out on Brentford last season, led me to doing 3 northern trips, I would otherwise probably not have done.
I flip-flopped on this when discussing it last year.
For the low-capacity aways (Bournemouth, Brentford and Luton etc), I did initially think the size of Tier 2 was a bit unfair to those just below the Tier 1 threshold.
However, I then decided this large Tier 2 group might be more fair, in that it gives more people a chance of going to one of these high-demand fixtures. If Tier 2 was shrunk down, and the following was a suggestion, there'd be a lot of people who would not get a chance to go to one of these games:
Window 1 – the allocation (using an example of 1k allocation – 1k)
Window 2 – double the allocation (around 2k)
Window 3 – 50% of STHs &1901 (around 12k)
Window 4 – all STHs & 1901 (around 24k)
I guess I can see the pros and cons of each approach.
I’m being thick I suspect, but that adds up to 30k, not 24k, isn’t it 3, 3, 6, 12 (excluding previous tiers) and 3, 6, 12, 24 including the tiers above ?

Having worked myself up from T4 to T1 (apart from Bournemouth) in 3 seasons.
I would say it works pretty well.
If it were impossible to break into T1, like it is for so many of the "big" clubs, then maybe something would need to be done.
I guess there will come a time where it isn't so easy to move up the tiers.
But at the moment, there seems to be enough flexibility.

I would think so - like a lot of people, if me and my son were split up by the tiers I wouldn't bother going as the ticket scramble is pretty off-putting nowadays in a way it wasn't before.
I didn't mind the ticket scramble when it genuinely a fair and even contest - you got the ticket if you were quicker and clicked on the right bits of the website because you done your homework properly. If you didn't get in, you only had yourself to blame for not doing those things properly. With the introduction of the queing system, you are just powerless as you are effectively blocked from competing until the roulette wheel turns. I found that quite demoralising and super frustrating - to the extent I wouldn't want to experience it again.
I'd be in favour of a wide tier 2 banding if that change hadn't been made by the club. But now it has been - am sure they can justify it by their ticket setup not being able to cope with high demand - then I have now shifted my view and think there should be a narrower tier 2 band.
