They won't keep dropping infinitely, like Lloyds its a matter of time before they cancel dividends to save money and plough it into the cleanup. Depending on (a) how quickly the crisis gets averted, (b) how many of the American shareholders (40% of the register) bail because Fox tells them to, and (c) the situation in Brazil, it'll all level out. BP may be paying in the short term but globally the price of oil is going to rocket in the next few years with supplies running out and once the share dip levels out it'll climb again.

Personally going off Obama quite quickly, once the Messiah, now throwing the "British Petroleum" tag :bla: around despite its merger with an American company, its huge American shareholding and American interests, 50% American board membership and accident by American crew on an American rig with American equipment. But f*** it, Uncle Sam never does anything wrong right? Cross your fingers Billy Bob (all twelve of them) and hope the Afghan diamond spoils prop up the economy again. And you said your brave boys were right to go in.:glare:

BP is simply too big to fail it's a bit like the Banks, there contribution to pension funds and taxes on both sides of the Atlantic are simply too important to lose for either Government.
Is this not the American division of BP that are responsible, are they a separate legal entity to the main company all all under one, I don't know but there are some strange things that can be done to preserve the company as a whole. My suspicion is BP will sell the American interests off to an American Oil Company make it a great victory for the magnificent land of the free and home of the twat.

Has at any point Cameron come out publicly in support of BP?

think he muttered something about having a chat with Obama......that would have been just before Obama enhanced hs street cred by declaring that BRITISH Petroleum were entirely to blame and would bear all the costs

I have just had a nice read of the letter dated 14th June 2010 to Mr Hayward (CEO BP) from The Honorable Joe Barton (Ranking Member of the House of Congress). A 14 page letter stating how the House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce were 'looking forward to your testimony before the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations', which is today.

It is an absolute cracker of a read and anyone with BP shares should sell now. Everywhere it reads as BP having cut corners and essentially tried to save money , despite warnings from their sub-Contractors and others.

Page 2 'Centralisers' last sentence.........wowee

The are well and truly f****d.

Mr Hayward will not be enjoying his cornflakes this morning....when he wakes that is!

Things like this make me nervous. So just sold a little under half my shares making a small £80 profit. But now thinking of selling the rest later. Will come out with a £180 - £200 profit since buying them 2 days ago. Not what I had hoped for but a profits a profit.

This is all in the public domain so factored into the current share price.

As I posted last night, yesterday's $20bn stuff was seen as good news for BP with the stock rising on the NYSE, which has carried over into London today - they're currently up c8% which is one hell of a hike for a company the size of BP.

Note: I'm not saying that the price won't take another plunge, but documents like the above are all available to the market, and their expected impact included.

Public domain they may be but the fatc of the matter is thta, even thought he culprits were American BP, they were BP and the company will be held fully accountable. 20$b might not even shake a stick at it.

100,000 businesses affected. 500,000$ avergae claim say = 50billion dollars

Hoodless Brennan ( recommended by finance guru Martin Lewis ) are pretty good. Charges are around the £9 to buy and £9 to sell. Remember to factor in these costs when share dealing along with stamp duty on purchases.

TD Waterhouse are just as good. I currently use these people.

i think some of the claims of the numbers affected are rather wide of the mark. an individual fisherman or even whole trawler are not likly to being able to claim $500k losses to date, and i doubt there is that many business in the area.

consider, the major employer in the affected states is oil and offshore drilling, they have agreed to set aside a mere $110million to cover lost earnings while the industry is suspended. doesnt really scale up does it?

Obama has managed to get his hands on at least 20 billion dollars of BP money, he will go through all of it.

I've always used NatWest SB, is there anything better? Often wondered why people worry about trading costs but not about the spread?
