The price of oil had a record drop yesterday down 15 dollars a barrell and these 3 companies have put the prices at the pump up again:tantrum: you c u n t s

The price of oil now they should be charging 1.24 a litre not 1.38

These companies make billons time for the goverment to sort these greedy bastards out:tantrum:

They make very little from petrol at the pump and some would rather not sell it but politically continue to do so because the majority goes in duty and they like to keep the government happy.

that is not correct I was a area manager at BP for 8 years and we made 9p a litre at the pumps but used to say it was just 1 pence to the public

first, the price of oil you read is for the futures contract, Jun delivery now. even if you were looking at the spot price for deliver today, it would then need to be refined before ending up in your tank. in other words theres a lag of weeks to months between oil price and pump price.

secondly, theres a massive amount of tax on petrol. if you are accounting for a 11% drop as you seem to be, that would only be about 4p off, not 14p im afraid.

if you recall price went up from the middle of Feburary from around $85, though £100 by the end of that month. thats the oil you are buying right now at the pump. expect prices to fall in june/july as a result of recent oil price drop.

That is correct. beat the banks, as long as you are not in a fixed rate, as far as mortgages go you will be paying less now than before the crisis.

And as mentioned above, Oil, and pretty much everything is bought on futures contracts & will also be hedged against risk, so the prevailing rate shown by BBC is utter rubbish compared to the real value, as always people like the BBC want a news story so will in effect make one up.

Last week in Spain i was paying 1.33 a litre for diesel, yesterday it was 1.23, so it seems there is room for a price drop.

Oil companies although history have had great power with goverments. The amount of money washing about is incredible and no western goverment will ever take them on in a fight over prices. They may huf and puf but there's never a true downward move.

The price we pay for petrol in this country is extortionate...both the government and the oil companies are laughing all the way to the bank.

If 1 of the supermarkets makes a move that will cause a knockon effect. So come on Asda sort the price out.

You are joking, they are all in this together and fix the price between themselves.

Thanks Greens :(
I got one of those circular e-mails that said if I, and all the contacts I sent it on to, boycotted just BP and Esso garages, and filled up anywhere else, within a couple of weeks it would be six million people boycotting them. I think THEN there might be a rethink by them both, and subsequently by other oil companies, about prices ???

Which is totally pointless as most petrol stations are franchises.

The only wallet to suffer would be franchisee (i.e. some local bloke and his family) by putting him out of business.

So you don't go to BP but, for example, a supermarket who get their fuel from, guess who, BP :D

Seems crazy that a few years ago we had the fuel protests when the price was considerably lower. We are at the mercy of the oil companies and the government. Don't forget the higher the price, the more vat the government earn and they have no inclination to change that.

Pity the poor franchisee but in the end, the protest would work if you had the correct info re suppliers and it was well supported. If you boycotted BP garages and supermarkets, until they introduced a 5p cut it would put pressure on the oil company. Once they dropped the price, the protest should continue but with people using BP and none of the other suppliers. The other suppliers would then be forced to follow suit and you may then create a genuine price cutting war. At the moment, it is all too cosy with suppliers in each area pretty much charging the same. However, it would never work in a million years because you would never get a well supported protest.

The government are the ones who are making money out of fuel!

Around 50p a litre is duty, VAT is 20%

It cost around 25p a litre to make it - which leaves about 7p a litre for the retailer...

I know where my anger is directed!
