In days gone by I drove to matches and she went shopping with her sister and reckoned she saved a fair bit buying the weeks shopping up north Nobody told her of the cost of getting to Darlington or Carlisle or stopping for dinner on the way home.

Well your good lady seems relatively tame in comparison to mine. She has only ever been to one football match. I took her to theFGoldtone back in the 1980's. I turned to her after about 20 minutes to ask if she was enjoying the game, only to see her engrossed in a newspaper . . . I never did ask her the question.

My wife is barred from watching or listening to games as we always lose when she does . Her last was the League cup game at Northampton when Michael Poke was in goal and we los that.

Yes I remember that game well. I once made the cardinal mistake of saying to the wife, I hope you realise that football will always come first. She didn't speak to me for a week.

In the field
Easyjet had a standard flight from Gatwick to Newcastle until a few months ago. They've unfortunately canned it due to exorbitant landing fees at Gatwick apparently.

Closest away game of the season for me, thankfully.

Virgin East Coast leaving Friday on the 13:08 to York and back on the 16:57 from York on the Saturday is £29 return (groups of three or more) and we booked a triple room in York for £31:00 each. York to Boro is £13 return and takes 54 minutes so happy days !
That is interesting, the in laws live in skipton but have a flat in York that they let us stay in when ever we are up that way.
That's THAT sorted then :)

Scarborough B&B hotel, drive up Friday, decent place to find great beer and a half decent curry too. Drive to Boro on Saturday through North Yorks National Park, watch the match, get promotion, back through the National Park and carry on the party in Scarborough.

Really? I'm only vaguely familiar with the location, but I'll admit I've never heard anybody extolling the virtues of Washington (the UK version) before.

Durham, York, Newcastle, Scarborough, Whitby: all of these are places I know Albion fans are utilising for this trip. I imagine you'll be the only one in Washington, surely? :)

Well as I am a super fan and haven't been away for a couple of years, I will of course demand a ticket, first and foremost. Then I will probably stay in Naresborough over night and catch up on my yorkshire roots, or drive up on the day. There are a few of us who will want to go as we are glory hunters and I will fill the car easily.

Bring it on!

The only game that I have taken my wife to was the Burnley game a couple of seasons ago when we had 2 sent off after 15 minutes. The atmosphere after that was amazing with The Great Escape ringing around the ground. I turned to her to ask her how she was enjoying it and she was reading a book. Ive never asked her again.
