Boris Johnson to campaign to leave the EU

Simply that we are not so small that we can't trade with the world. We are double the size of Canada and Australia, but they have better GDP per capita and can negotiate deals.
Yes, the SNP were previously on record saying that they'd automatically be a member of the EU, but they've backtracked on that. I don't know how likely it is that the EU would accept their request, and I don't know that the Scottish people would want to join the Euro, which I imagine would be bad for their economy.

Ok. I think we've done this one. We'll have to agree to disagree. I will be voting to stay as I think we're better off inside the EU, safer and stronger.

I can assure you I wouldn't.

A very calculating, self serving, and manipulative politician. The very fact that even the BBC refer to him by his first name is evidence of that.
Absolutely this - Boris Johnson plays a very clever game, with his 'man of the people' and 'bumbling clown' personas but I feel he is deeply untrustworthy and having him as PM would be deeply worrying.

No problem.

Ok Dave. I will be voting to leave as I think we're better off outside the current EU, safer and stronger.

Of course it'll take time. There will have to be hundreds of new regulations drawn up, very costly new arrangements with our border controls ( including those currently advantageously based for us in France and Belgium ) and over trade etc.

Utter scaremongering rubbish
Border arrangements with these two countries have nothing to do at all with membership of the EU,the agreements are entirely separate. France has recently verified they have no intention of reneging on the deals should we leave the EU.

get your facts right.

This seems to be what I have been looking for :

The Constitution Unit in the Department of Political Science at University College London is the UK's leading research body on constitutional change.

https://constitution-unit.com/2016/01/19/what-happens-if-we-vote-for-brexit/

Headline Paragraph :

"The EU referendum could be held as early as June so clarity is needed about what will happen in the event of a vote to leave. In this post Alan Renwick explains Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty which sets out the procedure for leaving the EU. Under it a second in/out referendum of the type floated by Boris Johnson among others is not possible. Anybody suggesting that voters can vote to ‘leave’ safe in the knowledge that they can later change their minds is either playing with fire or manipulating voters disingenuously."

Hope this country grows a pair of balls for a change, because we have been let down by consecutive governments time after time, and stupid EU rules have played a significant part in adding to those problems.

That link makes it pretty clear that out doesn't necessarily mean out. As I said earlier though, I wouldn't vote out unless I was prepared to accept leaving.

"Anybody suggesting that voters can vote to ‘leave’ safe in the knowledge that they can later change their minds is either playing with fire or manipulating voters disingenuously."
And I agree with that. You can't vote to leave safe in the knowledge you can change your mind, because you might not be able to. But you might.

Eh? Napolean was defeated by an alliance of Netherlands, Prussia, Russia and Great Britain. It was the epitome of European co-operation. The WWI was an alliance of France, Belgium and Great Britain (and many commonwealth countries and WW2 was an alliance of a multiple countries (not all within Europe).

I can't think of any time in the last 200 years that we've been 'alone' in any conflict. Even in the madcap Suez venture we had France on our side

If you look at those four conflicts Waterloo could have gone either way before the Prussians came in late, the Yanks baled us out in WW1 and WW2 and we lost Suez. At least we still have the Falklands.

Yes it's all a big drama when discussing politicians as I've mentioned previously and stated that people shouldn't really need well known figures to change their mind.
Personally I hate everything about the EU and I see many countries throughout with high unemployment and poverty galore.Having people leaving their country for a better life and work seems plausible, but it only benefits the richer countries and I don't see the EU doing anything about it.
My hope is that the whole European Union collapses and countries can go back to having their identity preserved rather than the big wigs in the EU destroying what's great about these countries because of greed and financial gain.
Everything is becoming financial based to stay in and it's getting ridiculous...
Landlords want more and more migrants as they can squash them into houses in large numbers.
Companies want more and more migrants so they can pay the minimum wage
I'd prefer us to leave and focus on building up our infrastructure within and to stop making cut after cut...booming economy and our services are being cut and billions shipped abroad each year.
It goes on and on and on and on...always good to have different opinions wether you prefer in or out :)

I like this.

My question is this. Why doesn't any true self respecting British man or women want their country's sovereignty back, their country's ability to govern themselves and their country's ability to trade with the rest of the world. It just baffles the brain how some people are content with being dictated to by a bunch of unelected fools. Roll on independence day 23rd June :)

Another good response. I wonder how many of those wanting to remain in the EU have ever served their country?
