people are overlooking that the PM is not the head of state, thats the Queen, who appoints new PM if necessary.

And that is why HM will be getting up to date reports on his health.

Where's Mark Francois? He was born to lead in a crisis.

Priti Patel is only ranked 4th! With her people skills, she’s surely PM elect should Johnson succumb.

If the worse came to the worse the Cabinet would decide who is to take over, and that person would then go to the Queen for her approval (which is just a formality).

Would they use the internationally-recognised rock/paper/scissors to do that?

I see Morgan is trying to stir things up again "who is now in charge of sending nuclear missiles? They will have some tough decisions in the next few days"

Agreed. More opportunistic tabloid bollocks from Morgan as he smells the power vacuum and his gutter journalism instincts kick in.

Current situation is a good example of why picking a Cabinet of poodles and debasing the role of Civil Servants may be good for a PM but not the country.

No.5 is self isolating now. Hunt finished second in the leadership race and has intelligently critiqued the government’s handling of this, perhaps they could find a way of giving the former health secretary the helm for the next month or two whilst Mr Johnson recovers?

It will be interesting to see how the internal Tory politics plays out alongside the coronavirus.

Only a few months ago I watched the drama series 'Cobra' but had trouble believing the storyline that at a time of national disaster (in this case a solar surge that had taken out the national grid and left the UK without power) party politics and opportunism would be so prevalent.
