While Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role as James Bond in the next film, the franchise is set for a shake-up, with reports claiming that black British actor Lashana Lynch has been cast as 007 – taking over Bond’s secret agent number after his character leaves M16.

I have to be honest, having someone "take over" the 007 number as opposed to replacing the Bond character is a genius move. Gets you away from the nightmare of those who refuse to entertain anything other than a white, male, English, Scottish, Irish or Australian actor and those who think otherwise fighting until the end of time.

It basically means they can cast who they want as 007 and change the format as times change.

Absolutely. Doctor Who did a similar thing in Capaldis last season. Had a male time lord regenerate into a woman on screen making it canonical that gender swapping at regeneration is possible.

All looks good. Bond is still Bond but we have a female 007. Nothing is compromised. Except, perhaps, the keyboard fingers of a few Daily Mail readers...

or the entire character of Bond. imagine casting say Gemma Chan as Poirot, not really going to work properly is it? Then again, under Daniel Craig the charater has already been altered so i supposed it doesn't matter much any more.

More of a Johnny English man myself.

Depends how they run with this really, if they go with this new 007 and keep the quality good then Bond fans will continue to love it surely?

However if they go the Ghostbusters route and make it the only purpose of the movie it'll bomb.

Eh? His character is James Bond 007! So if his character leaves MI6, then how can she be the next 007? Unless it means the actor is leaving , which we all know...BUT. 007 has always been a man...ok a man with different faces, but they are all one character.....a woman wouldn’t be right would it!

Aye.

Have you ever read of the books btw...some of them ( a view to a kill eg) bear absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to the film...the only thing that is the same is 007 and M
