And Tony Maybury (sp?) (who replaced Frank Smith) went on to form the Vandells after the DPs with Dave Barnard - Another underrated punk band!Dave Barnard and Ozzy Garvey, more blasts from the past
Haha! I was sacked from a band, ( for the life of me can't remember the bands name ) only to be replaced by Dave Barnard! TBF a much better bass player then me.
The way the band did it was a bit shit though! They told me the band was breaking up! Next thing I see they are gigging with Dave on bass.
I think Dave is still going strong but, sadly, Oz is no longer with us (nor are the other Depressions members)
He did - in 2003. He was a lovely bloke, always ready to stop for a chatI don't know about bass playing, but he was certainly a better vocalist from what I remember
I know a bass player who was in a three piece, when the other two told him they were leaving and could they use the name ? Why's it always the bass player
IIRC Ozzy died quite young a long long time ago And didn't Tonge pre-date the DPs ?
Yes think so. I remember seeing Tonge play at the Hungry Years with Dave Barnard on bass/vocals, and the guy who owned Southern Music on rhythm guitar, can't remember his name! This would have been about 1974/75.And didn't Tonge pre-date the DPs ?

I remember Tony Maybury……nice fella and I used to see him at some other local gigs. Seem to remember he was also in a band called Joe Cool and the Killers. Anyone else remember them ?And Tony Maybury (sp?) (who replaced Frank Smith) went on to form the Vandells after the DPs with Dave Barnard - Another underrated punk band!
Tony died sadly around 2002 I think.
Edit - Cross posts!
Yes, I bought a really decent second hand drum kit from there - did a hard sell and flogged me a Zildjian ride to go with it which cost almost as much as the drum kitNow that's triggered something deep in my memory. Was Southern Music down Waterloo street and didn't the bloke who owned it manage one of our bands. The one that made bugger all money
