Does anyone have any idea why Tom Hark by the Piranhas has never been available on Spotify?
It's all to do with rights/royalty issues. There are other Sire artists on there.

Yea thats right, opened first in Waterloo St, then moved to Castle Street I think was the name of the road:unsure:
I bought quite a few odds and ends from both shops. Actually sold stuff at decent prices. I got a 1964 Hofner violin bass from him for under £100, original case and strap, the works.

I don't know about bass playing, but he was certainly a better vocalist from what I remember

I know a bass player who was in a three piece, when the other two told him they were leaving and could they use the name ? Why's it always the bass player :lolol:

IIRC Ozzy died quite young a long long time ago  And didn't Tonge pre-date the DPs ?
Yes , Tonge were extremely LOUD too !

Does anybody have any news about Bob's "arrangements"? I haven't been able to find anything online. Thanks.

I think Dave is still going strong but, sadly, Oz is no longer with us (nor are the other Depressions members)
I posted a pic of Dave in the thread earlier. But I didn't say who it is.

Incidentally, I had always assumed you were a former public school boy like John and Miles.... how did you get together with them in the band?

Happy New year

Miles isn't a public school boy - he was at Varndean with me.

We'd known John a couple of years. Of all the places to meet, we encountered him at the European Bridge Championship, we all had a summer job there, setting up and clearing tables. John was selling a Maoist newspaper outside, chatting to him we discovered a shared interest in Velvet Underground and Can. We stayed in touch after that

Came across one of them many many years later in the 2000s when I was doing mobile DJing. It was a work Christmas do in one of the hotels on the seafront. An old punk came up and got really angry because I played Tom Hark...

...twat.

Is Angie still working/involved with the Labour Party? Last time I saw her was about 25 years ago when we met up for lunch at Westminster! Lovely, lovely lady.

Edit - I just realised that instead of “Angie” that ran the Zap with Neil, Dave and Pat, you could have meant “Angie”, Ian’s wife? Also a lovely lady

Another dear friend whom I lost touch with when he moved to Sweden. A decent drummer with a son who was (when I last saw him too!) a young prodigy on the drums.

Very sad to have found out he had died.

Isn’t it incredible that Bob‘s passing should link all of us to those we knew on the performing arts/music culture of Brighton in the 70s-80s - he really was a Brighton legend.
I had a beer or six with Keith this summer when I came over. We happened to be back in Brighton at the same time and met up in the Green Dragon.

Dave Barnard and Ozzy Garvey, more blasts from the past
I knew Ozzy quite well, he used to come in almost every lunchtime when I worked in the Sussex on Brighton seafront. His little girl used to come in to get her pocket money from him. Years later, as a young adult, she became a regular at a club I was DJing in and it took me years to realise it was her.

Was that a yes to me posting the single to you ? I don't want any money for it.
No, sorry.
Woodbine. I remember them ! Wasn't bob Hawkins the lead guitarist ? He used to date Mike Roberts' sister, Lynne. The drummer was called Isaac. Bob Hawkins was a phenomenal guitarist.

The first ‘yes’ was in response to your question, wasn’t Bob Hawkins the lead guitarist? - (Bob Hawkins joined the lineup around the time they moved to the Fortune of War in the late ‘70s). The second ‘yes’ was a yes to ‘he was a phenomenal guitarist‘.
