Insurances are up due to the increased amount of fraudulent claims and higher personal injury

Edit and when I last renewed the best quote from Moneysupermarket was about £100 cheaper than anything quoted via go compare

£93 a month ! That's shocking. Mine is £168 a year. I was only paying about £230 for a group 17 car a couple of years ago.
Mind you, I'm old and knackered, which helps.

It is for Public Hire though.

Claim costs are rising due to accident management companies stretching out hire car costs. Many repairers keep the car for far longer than they need to (so hire car costs rise even further) as they book "for the week".

People do NOT *need* like for like hire cars, a mid-range hatch (Focus/Golf etc.) is fine and if you need something big a Mondeo/Vectra/Passat for £100 a day is fine, they don't need a 911 at £500 a day for weeks on end...

It's down to the ins companies to put a cap on hire car costs (say £100/£150 per day) and capping weekly costs, reducing the amount each week.

There was a news item on this where a footballer (not that that's relevant :D) had someone smash into him and the total claim cost was something like £75,000, mostly hire car costs!!!!!

The ins companies can sort this out (if they want to) or pass the "costs" to the punters.....

A couple of years ago I bought a modern car...(after the pretty serious winter I had trying to get my old girl to start)....given that I've forked out £190 to tax, £100 to MOT and £240 to insure last month, my car is now on the market.

Ridiculous - I'm going back to my classic cars - should never have changed!

Insurance has also increased due to the insurance companies being greedy twats

This. The only response is to get quotes from other companies. If they won't match the best, move. Really annoys me that new customers are treated better than existing customers.

I'm seriously tempted to buy a classic, saw a MkI Escort on the road the other day and it was beautiful. still for my 1.3l toyota I should not be paying what my new quote is....bloody ridiculous!

Mine's on a classic policy but it cannot be your main car (I've got use of mrs H's Saab as a main car).

hmm, problem is i think the insurance companies are actually selling the hire car as a value add. i got a call this year just after renewal asking if i wanted to upgrade to a services that would provide hire car in the event of a right off, as apparently my policy only covers for hire cars during repair. ive never given it any thought, i would have expected they offered the hire car for a period anyway, so is this a change to the terms? either way, definatly trying to sell hire car cover.

right I do a Go Compare & Moneysupermarket and lo and behold the Hastings quote on them is significantly lower than the one they gave me through the post, so I rings them up I does....10minutes of wrangling and the bloke on the phone cant get the quote near the online one, so I then mention "does this include my driving conviction is over 5 years so is now null and void?"...."no" he replies and he resets it.....guess what, the GOON comes back with a HIGHER quote..HOW can that possibly be?!?! seriously a higher quote with NO convictions?!?! RUBBISH!

he passes me over to some Renew Car Insurance who are twice as crap and quote me higher still, I give up in a hissy fit and throw the phone at the wall smashing the f***ing thing everywhere......TWATS the lot of 'em

so I'm gonna calm down and try again another day, they are all seriously money grabbing cockjuggling thundertwats the lot of 'em!
