I thought loads of contracts are running out at the same time including Mac and Tross? Does mean either we don’t rate them or they’re refusing to sign contracts too?

Maupay too...

I have a feeling that the club want rid of Biss.

I'd suggest that is a very 'hard' way to view this. Perhaps they might be willing to listen to offers, but I'd be very surprised if anyone was actively pushing him out.

There are significantly more obvious ways of "getting rid" of a player.

If the club were so keen, then surely telling Villa they can have him for £20m would have done the trick.
They would have enough left to meet the (alleged) agent/player demands.

He could easily sign a new contract with a release clause that would allow him to go to any club that was, say, playing Champions League or even Europa League if they paid a certain amount. But running down his contract so that the transfer fee would be less (or zero if he lets it expire) allows a new club to pay a bigger signing bonus.

So it's a balancing act. Does he settle for his current pay level and the risk of a career-ending injury with that big payday in mind, or does he sign an extension on better money with the risk of a lower signing bonus down the line?

I have it in my head that the club have stated in the past, they have a policy of NOT including release clauses in contracts, this may even have come from Tony himself. I don't think these are anyway as helpful in negotiations as people think, in fact quite the opposite.

If a player wants to go, it becomes very difficult to hold them back. What I think many people are underestimating right now, is that there are really not that many teams that can out compete little old Brighton right now in terms of player budgets and prospects. It isn't a given that ALL of our best players will be enticed away and I almost can't believe I just wrote that.

It was said by Dan Ashworth in his interview with Andy Naylor in pre-season. Basically Tony Bloom doesn't like release clauses, and also isn't really keen on 'loan to buy' agreements on outgoing players, but in some circumstances it is necessary (Karbo + Andone)

Also Locadia had one, Molumby has one etc etc.

Don’t rule out an extended contract announcement today. He could become our highest paid player ever with clauses to allow him to leave if one of the world’s top half dozen clubs come in for him.

Agree in principal about us wanting to offer the contract extension.

However his contract situation, and indeed him being offered one, or another club signing him at this precise time is rather complicated as we all know.

According to Birmingham Live, "The Daily Mail are reporting that Villa have "decided against" making a move for Bissouma, who has long been admired by Steven Gerrard and his coaching staff."

They've finally "decided against" becoming a laughing stock when they make a club-record bid for a player who then turns them down flat.

But but Gerrard is the Messiah, has no one told Biss?

He is turning down the chance to sign for next season’s PL winners, madness
