it's caused a bit of a flap....
Grendel said:Where do you get that figure from? Tamiflu is a prescription drug, so shouldn't cost more than £6.50 if you obtain through the NHS.

That said if you want to worry, AIDS is still carrying away millions each year, and for that matter so is Maleria.

Being as the mortality rate for those afflicted with bird flu is about 50%, this would mean that 15% of the UK population is about to be WIPED OUT.HampshireSeagulls said:Looking at 30% of the UK being serioulsy incapacitated for a two - three week period, suitable plans are drawn up. Hopefully better than those for F&M, etc....

Yeah, but I suppose it's for a 'good cause' this time as opposed to the military just being used as strike-breaking, scab labour.HampshireSeagulls said:Hopefully all this will kick off after I have returned my kit, as military aid to the civil community is going to be somewhat manpower intensive - free labour replacements to man dustcarts (again) ambulances (again) fire tenders (again)......etc, etc

Grendel said:At present there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that Tamiflu is ineffective. There's been speculation that it may be ineffective in standard dosage and treatment cycle but no study has even been conducted on this, let alone proven it. The speculation seems to stem from a report that 2 Vietnamese patients have died from Avian Flu despite being treated with Tamiflu. No mention is given of their dosage, how often they had been on the treatment, or the physical state (e.g. were they elderly or infirm before they contracted the flu) that they were in at the time. Tamiflu claims to reduce deaths from flu by up to 90%, which means that statistically 10% of people will still die from it. All in all, hardly convincing evidence for the ineffectiveness of the drug.
