If you were in Sharps shoes would you, want to go to a Scunny or a Doncaster? Sure your still playing championship football, at a club whos ambition, is to maintain championship football at best, clubs with little fan base and not much hope of that changeing, due to the other clubs in that region......Or,,,,come to a league one team, with fantasic new stadia on way, potential large fan base, with ambitous chairman, who could realisticly finace a succesfull promotion push and then compete with the bigger boys in the championship and maybe even push for the prem?? Without any bias, i would find the challenge and the buzz, around what is going to happen at this club over the next few years, something i would want to be a part of.(sorry if spelling and grammer is awfull).....

The Rev's is a hypothetical question - anyone called Billy Sharp is either a fictional character in The Beano, or the stage name of a 60s pop star.

yes i agree with portslade , its all about dosh in the lower leagues, a championship player with a good long career could probabaly earn and invest enough to retire on , but league 1 i doubt it

depends how much the vying teams are willing to pay in wages

Agreed, but that could be taken into account in the contract, depending on promotions etc etc..Thinking of your pay packet is fair enough, but sometimes a little less, can mean a lot more in the future.I know players are not known for there brains but in two years time, he may have missed the boat, so to speak.

I still don't understand wht White made it public that we were interested, as all other deals have been kept reasonably under wraps. More to the point why have we not reorganised the backroom staff and bought in a decent coach.

Would love to sign Sharp, and would be a statement of intent, but would the chairman spend over £1M and break any pay structure ?

Perhaps White let it slip to give the hurry-up to the striker we are really interested in and to confirm the extent of our ambition

Yes if I were in Sharp's shoes of course I would sign for the Albion but there again I am an Albion fan and he ain't !!
I have made this argument many times for many players that we've been touted as being interested in or that I have wanted to stay at the club (Bobby Z being a prime example)- that it would be better to break through and be an integral part of a championship winning side and then I would command a bigger fee if I was to go on elsewhere etc etc but I am afraid that, realistically, a football player's "shelf life" is a short one. Forget your Rooneys and Ronaldos your Lampards and Terrys Mr Joe Average footballer has to think with his wallet and it's what he gets now that makes the difference, it's also not upsetting the wife/partner/kids etc and uprooting them from one end of the country to the other. I would like him to sign - he's a decent player and would be the perfect foil for Dickinson (Little and Large) and we could then let murray go if he wants away but I do doubt that he will come. i would like to be proved wrong mind . . .

I reckon he wont come to us i see him going to another championship side like doncaster or scunny or another one and it would be a good signing if he did sign for us

I think it would show a lack of ambition if he decided to sign for us...
