So if Paynter was playing, you'd assume that Barnes would be on the bench with either Lua Lua or Noone, Brezovan, another midfielder, Vincelot, where would that leave Hoskins?

Like Dean Wilkins did i wouldn't bother with a sub keeper. I'd like there to be more options up front, atm Barnes has no fear of being dropped.

Wasn't there but is Hoskins up to covering for the defence like Barnes is asked to do? From the commentary it seemed Barnes was being used to help shore up a wobbly defence rather than being played as an out and out striker??

Sure, but just how many defenders are required in a team of eleven ? Although I agree with others that strikers need to help in defence, we certainly should not be relying on a striker as a principal defender. In the last two games, CMS has cleared off the line at least twice so he definitely fits in to the mantra of acknowledging responsibility when required. The problem with Barnsey, for whom I have a lot of time, is that indeed like Chris Woods, his strike statistics are/were pretty deplorable. Chris Woods has moved up a gear since last season with us and I wont be surprised to see him in the other Albion line up before too long). AB is currently a luxury we cannot really afford.

If there is no attack, other than CMS, then that is pretty negative. The problem was that Barnes couldn't really hit a barnes door from close up and, yes, he has converted a few penalties but betya Vicente probably would too.

I wonder what would happen if we played hoskins instead of barnes...
-but kept the same tactics and hoskins played defensively and doesn't score?
-hoskins plays in a forward role, and we are defensively frail without the defensive support ashley provides?
-hoskins plays, scores, we win, then go on another run without a win, with hoskins missing some chances?
-barnes is dropped, we get a penalty and it is saved/missed?

atm Barnes has no fear of being dropped.

I don't believe that is true, what with the article in the argus this week that specifically named him as one of the players at risk of being dropped, and Gus spoke as if they knew they were at risk.

After conceding 9 in 3 they needed some help is my guess, unfortunately Gus chose to go negative or fortunately as we gained a point. Another shipping of goals would have been catastrophic for our nervy defence with no alternatives to step up.

It seems Barnes natural position was sacrificed to help attain this?

Where will we fit all our bought players in when they are all fit. I know Buckley isnt fit for tonight as I saw a chap running over from a bank in Burgess Hill at just before 5pm tonight and got into his black Merc and drove off so assumed it was Will Buckley. It sudenly came to me that it was his car as I remebered reading his Reg No on NSC as few days ago.

Sure it wasn't someone just robbing the bank, or nicking the motor ??
