Only 2 players scored over 20 goals in the Premier league last season - Son & Salah. Which one of those do you propose we sign?

I know this is quite regularly pointed out, and quite right too, but isn’t one of our USPs that we take players and improve them to cash in. If we can get Cucerella to a £60 mill plus valuation, give Bissouma Champions League football and turn Ben White into an England and £50 mill player, why can’t we sign a 10 goal a season forward and turn them into a 20 goal player. They’d surely make us more than Cucerella if we did ???

Billy Gilmour

yes and it's not even close

Probably a level up on Cifuentes at DM too (he is outstanding on his left foot) :

Potter will love the midfield versatility:

I keep seeing this thread having additional replies and each time I hope it is news that we've done a permanent deal.
I would be more excited by us signing Gilmour than a £10m striker with potential. We know what a wonderful talent Gilmour is and how upset the Chelsea fans will be if they sell him.

It was only June last year that Gilmour was man of the match in the England v Scotland Euro '20 game (played in 2021).
He dominated an England midfield containing Rice, Phillips, Mount and Foden.

Getting Billy Gilmour would be the most 'Brighton' type signing possible.

He was f***ing awful at Norwich, but we’re a bit better than that. He’s nowhere near as good as Caicedo or MacAllister. Good bench warmer though.

It makes a lot of sense. Talented and much hyped youngster whose value has dropped after a disappointing loan spell. The gamble is that Potter can coach him back to the required level and that our passing game will suit him - I think it will, one of his skills is wriggling free from the press in midfield and pinging out a pass.

It also makes a lot of sense when you consider that Caicedo may leave for big bucks next summer, and we might also cash in on Mac Allister in the last year of his contract. The sitting midfield spots would then be effectively between Gilmour, Moder, Kozlowski and Alzate.

One of those is out on loan and moder will be out for ages, might not even see him this season

My personal preference would be to give Steven Alzate a chance to shine... would he be as pinball random as Mwepu ? He’s always impressed me, especially in central midfield... and he can play wide too as he proved during his brilliant senior debut up at Newcastle.

I’m unsure why he’s not featuring more to be honest, at least off the bench.

It’s one of those strange GP things I can’t quite work out.

This potential signing would be underwhelming, and if I’m honest a bit needless... and as others have said he was truly woeful last season... more SPL than PL and that equates to not good enough.

But then again I coach an under 8s team so what do I know ?

Tbf, your U8 players could probably do a job in the Scottish Premiership!

I completely agree. I've seen Gilmour a couple of times and I've never seen him play as well as we know that Alzate can. Potter says he rates him but hardly ever plays him, and meanwhile various new midfield players are reportedly targeted.

Totally agree... if this is true, which I suspect it is, well, I can’t really understand it... if I was Alzate I would be a bit miffed in all honesty, as he played well in the cup scored a superb goal and then gets overlooked for Mwepu... who, and I take no pleasure in this, was abject and all over the place at Fulham.

Now, obviously I’m not privy to the tactical reasons for the current selection policy nor am I there at training ... but I can’t help feeling that if we ease Alzate out, we will live to regret it when he turns up at a CL club.

Looks like this one is over:

These aren't the players you're looking for.

I think this one will be dictated by Chelsea's pursuit of Edson Álvarez. If they get him out of Ajax, Tuchel may be open to Gilmour leaving.
