I'd say it's more likely West ham kept upping their offer thinking more money was all they needed to offer, CMS/Vicente turned them down and rather than look at himself, the football he plays, the current stature or momentum of the clubs he assumed it was because other clubs paid more instead of other clubs being more appealing.

This is my gut reaction. The style/manager combo is seriously underrated. For example, how many young players would choose, say, Wigan on 10G a week over Man Utd on 5G a week? Not, obviously, Glenn Murray.
