BHA Opinion of Pompey

Well, we've heard their opinion, so what say you?

I've always regarded them as a similar sized club to us, with proper (if somewhat scummier than ours) fans. They the will always be far greater rivals than South Coast Club.

There is defiitely a bad taste in the mouth left by their recent ill-gotten gains.

It was sad to see the trouble the club was in just like us. I think we are a bigger club than pompey! and have far more potential than they ever will have.

I respect the rivalry between us. Even your scummiest rivals have some quite decent fans, you've just got to know where they are! x)

On a par with Leeds in terms of general perception within the footballing community. They spent money they didn't have, cheated many local businesses and individuals out of money they were rightly owed for services provided, causing many extreme financial hardship, and now they have wrangled out of paying the money back are proceeding to pay actual transfer fees to sign players who are on good wages, beginning the cycle again.

It's borderline criminal the way football clubs are run - in trouble? Go into administration to avoid repaying debts, and start all over again.

You can't really blame their fans for supporting a club run by dodgy geezers. We spent some time in the nineties doing the same.

Put that to one side and Portsmouth do look like a proper football club. Hugely passionate fans, seedy old ground in a working class part of town, considerable history.

I dont feel they we be challenging for promotion for a fair while not until they sort things out behind the scenes, I some what feel that things are yet to go more down hill for them before things get better but I do hope they sort things out.

I don't recall spending years in the prem and winning the FA cup in the nineties though.

Awful club , chips on shoulder and as someone said similar to Leeds. I'd say fickle fans as their gates show , they are up and down to 7 / 8 k up until their recent brought success. Good atmosphere last time we were there but they were top of the league. Don't buy into all this "they are marvelous" , they are no better than us. Pompey is a crap place full of crap people. They dismiss us but you know they are jealous.

Hate them and def our 2nd rival.

You can't really knock their support and there is something of the aftertiming about all those that say it was obvious they were heading for catastrophe but did nothing to prevent it. It's a tad Vince Cable for my liking. I have to say though that I was stunned when they signed Lawrence and Kitson on 20k a week (reportedly) deals having just survived by the skin of their teeth. How?!

Last time I went there, stepped out of fratton station and was welcomed with glass being thrown, fighting, and aggressive homophobic abuse. One man and his police dog was not enough sadly. Hopefully they will get it right this time.

The game itself, the pompey fans were very vocal and created a good atmosphere (apart from that shitty bell)

After game, police escort to the station (felt alot safer)

So from the above, I don't like them much.

last time we played them down there did Merson score or am I making it up? I twisted my ankle walking to my seat and fell about 5 or 6 rows down the stairs, much to the home supports amusement...

Lots of decent fans but also a high number of aresholes who will be out in force on Saturday. Bit like us really! Read in the Argus this morning that they are arranging loads of flags for Saturday, won't be a patch on Doncaster! The £20K a week on kitson and Lawrence does not sit easily with the broken businesses left reeling by their ridiculous administration deal!
