One thing, Ireland was TOILET when he played against us. Probably Snodgrass or Baines..:glare:

Who remembers Neville Southall for Torquay back in the early, early days at Withdean? He was absolutely AMAZING! Didn't they beat us 1-0 and he was man of the match? And then the season after we destroyed them 6-2.

I do. He seemed to defy all the laws of science concerning reactions and big men.

At the other end of the pitch, Dean Ashton of Crewe destroyed us.

What the.. :wozza:

I must've seen a different game that night then.

He didn't do jack shit that night, I remember Michael Johnson (I think) being quite good but not him. Much like most of the Manchester city team (Jo ect) he was poor. Fact is, if he was anywhere near his best we probably would have lost.

Fair enuff if that's how you remember events that night, but I couldn't disagree with you more. I thought (Ireland) he was everywhere meself & he single-handedly kept Citeh in the game - as the rest of their big-shots floundered. Hey ho. We'll have to agree to disagree innit.

I honestly thought that Ireland was the best player on the pitch by a mile, people have different views I guess?

Lee Barnard - Doesnt matter what club he plays for he always seems to do good against us. Mainly for Southend though even though he scored for saints the other night againt us .

When I saw the thread title, that was the one that immediately sprang to mind. He was amazing that day.

A Bedeau/Williams special on the break took the points.

I remember Big Nev taking hours for his goal kicks and so on. He really did pull off a thoroughly decent professional performance at the ripe old age of 68.

Possibly the best keeping display I have seen at Withdean. We peppered their goal from start to finish and he performed like a man half his age.

Everywhere
I seem to remember James Milner playing a large part in ensuring Swindon came away with a 2-2 draw.

The four/five pronged attack of Wigan was pretty special. Blew us apart in the opening 5 minutes.

Milner would be the one who I would suggest also he was only 17 at the time I believe.
